Blackdog has the power to close a subject?Excuse me!I don`t even do that.

Ghost: Although I support blackdog's decision to close, it may in fact be a violation of forum policy. I've written Spark for an answer, and rest assured, we will take appropriate action. If we screwed up, we'll definitely bear our as-es for a beating

Blackdog will tell why he took the initiative to close - but for me, I think people were sick and tired of seeing Big Bob and I swap apologies back and forth

I did not care about the subject, after a point,I`m concerned about precedent. Why don`t I just delete all posts that I do not like?

It seems to me that as long as the forumites are responding to a thread, there's obviously some interest in it. And if there's activity on a thread it should remain open.

On the other hand, if no one responds to a thread, it just fades into oblivion, so I question the need for officially closing it.

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents' worth.

That particular thread was past dead...it was a rotten stinking corpse of a thread...it deserved to be closed. Kudos to Blackdog.

Gentlemen,

My reasons for closing the thread:

Big Bob started this topic as an honest and heart-felt apology for a specific posting on the HI forum and was recieved as such by the other forumites. Point taken, lesson learned.

The discussion gravitated towards a comparison of the GH & HI forums and the subject of "cliques". Comments were made as to why the forumites enjoyed one or both of the forums mentioned. This, although well meant, provided the potential for a turn towards an "us & them" discussion. Craig and I agreed from the very beginning that ALL would be welcome at the GH forum. No member need EVER explain or justify his/her visiting and enjoying any other forum.

We are two different forums with different views towards the same end. Not better or worse, just different. Much is to be learned from both forums. Intelligent, honorable people regularly frequent each. If the members feel they must choose sides or justify a posting on either forum, we have all lost something valuable.

It was with this in mind that I closed the topic. I felt it was the right thing to do and the right time to do it. If I was mistaken, I'll take my lumps for it. The mistake or associated lumps wouldn't be my first.

Blackdog

BlackDog, Good for you I have traded emails with both Craig and Uncle Bill. I enjoy both of the forums. This is not a "CAST" society. I have had to put up with my fare share of Cliques and attitudes. I am on the forums for enjoyment and the sharing of knowledge with others. I ignore most of the posts concerning controversy and fanatasism. I have enough experience to decide if I want my dog in that fight.

Keep these forums clean and congenial. We can all play together and have fun.

Cheers,

ts

Just one small but important footnote to my posting above. The decision to close the afore-mentioned thread was mine. Craig was out of computer range over the weekend when this transpired.

If anyone is to take heat over it, that would be me.

See? That's why Blackdog is such a great guy to co-moderate with! Blackdog: from all of us, thanks for the wisdom that you bring here!

On another topic, Ghost Six's worries about precidents are well taken, and I'm personally glad that this precident was set.
