Hisshou?

I have heard from a few people that they are quite impressive for a CRKT piece. It appears well made and is very pleasing to the eye. Functional for its purpose. Comes with a super nice storage box as well.

im deploying in not too olong and i think this is going to be my blade carry piece of choice..along with a ka-bar for utility needs. does anyone know what steel it is?

Napolean the blade is made of YK-30 High carbon steel. Blade thickness is 0.26/ 13 inch blade/ OAL is 18.38 inches. The handle is cord wraped with ray skin underlay that gives superior griping power. I think it would serve you well. Be safe.

I just got one this past Tuesday. I am flat out amazed at the fit and finish, feel, and obvious quality of this knife. I've had CRK&T knives in the past, but this one beats them all! I have put 4 coats of super glue on the cord wrapping to get a more solid grip, and it works well.

I appreciate all the help..I will defineately be buying this. lets just hope I dont need it hehe

If you like James Williams' design, but you don't wanna spend a lot of $$$, it's a good choice. Altought it is made in PRC, the f'n'f is excellent. Daido steel also very durable. (I recently wrote an article, and tested it in the woods. :D)

But it's primarily a weapon - more like a sword than a knife. ;)

Check with your unit commander first - some units do not permit unissued knives = confiscated.

With all due respect, the Hisshou is impressive but I don't think it to be an ideal design for modern combat. Anyway, most military knives are used for utilitarian purposes only - not CQC - and I believe a mundane multi-tool will be a better option. Besides, you'll be encumbered and weighed down enough with all your other essential gear without something sized between tanto/wakizashi strapped to you.

I'd order one of these just for the collection factor and the modern-ancient feel it has...but the price makes it just a 'If I ever made it big' piece. The display box is a nice touch, this thing is a combination of realistic construction and style.

i like em, i handled one a few months back and if it wasnt for the price i'd go for one.

I realize this thats why im carrying a ka-bar as well. and i know about the weight....but to me its a good weight.
