Got the chance to attend a historical crafts show this weekend at the Kootenai County fairgrounds in CdA, Idaho. I picked up a striker and some flint along with a lot of knowledge. Everyone was friendly and helpful. After getting home, I made some char and practiced lighting fires. It is impressive how easy it is to make sparks with a good striker and flint. I didn't have to strike more than twice to get the char to catch. And, once in the tinder bundle, I was impressed with how fast the heat built up in the bundle. The first bundle was the only one I had to try more than once to gel lit. Anyway, I think it is scheduled for next year just after Valentines day. It is a good show to attend if you are interested in this sort of knowledge.
