Historical Reference

Only took Jerry 2 weeks to knock that one out fewer interruptions back then...:thumbsup:

Radiused Tang. And there are knife companies that still don't understand the benefits of a radiused tang transition

I wonder what type of currency they would have to pay for the royalties?

This is the suspected style of the Jim Bowie knife from the Sandbar fight.

Is it really? I don't want to say I'm disappointed, I don't want to be disappointed, after all who am I to tell the great Jim Bowie what his knife should look like, and any comments associating that knife with grandma Bowie's kitchen would be wildly inappropriate, but dag nab it, dad gum it, that just don't look right!

edit to add picture more in line with expectation:

Yes, the sharpened clip point came well after the sandbar fight that made him famous

I have heard that referenced also that the Clip Point came after the Historical Knife fight. It was probably more historical to have a straight blade knife in that era for a Long Bladed knife more like a cross between Butcher and Carving like the first photo.

That is pretty much inline with what I had heard about Jim Bowie's actual first bowie knife. I believe it was provided to him by his brother in Louisiana.

Speculation that I have heard is that it is similar to a large French style butcher knife as that was the shape familiar to Louisiana residents.

This is a pic of what people today are calling Bowie #1 (it is just a name, it is not actually Jim Bowie's first bowie knife) we see that this one is starting to get a clip point, but still has that chef's knife overall shape.

At what point did 4 days turn into two weeks I wonder? :D:D:D:D:D

edit: ahahahaha, I continued watching after he said he needed it in four days and the smith answers my question :D

That is too funny, lol. I need to favourite this thread to look at again when I'm feeling down.

He must have also had some proprietary time compressing mechanism.

AND now we know the origins of the Busse Blue Grass Bowie!!!! 4 Days not 2 Weeks....That is Funny:cool:
