Hey guys, one thing ive noticed about a lot of tradition knives is that the main blade often has a lot of text, picture or a combination. I was wondering why this was done. Was it kind of like advertising for the knife company, or was it seen as kind of like a knife fashion trend (one that you dont see much of in modern designs). Something I was just curious about, and noticed through flipping through pics of many beautiful models.

I think it looks kind of neat, personally. Reminds me off those antique tins and such that many people keep.

Look forward to reading your responses

It's a prominent place for advertising. Companies would buy from Case/Schrade/Queen etc and have their logo/name put on them.

I wish that more companies would discontinue cluttering up the main blade and leave it plain. :(
I don't know if they're worried that peeps won't recognize the knife if it doesn't have their name plastered all over it?
Most companies have great shields already, I just don't see the reasoning.

I always looked at it as added embelishment. like the bulldog knife with the scene.
