Inspired by Kevin's sword thread I am interested in acquiring some high quality (well regarded) books on the history of swords. I would like a span of primarily written work to books with excellent graphics.
I enjoy research and collecting books. My intention is to continue making Bowie knives and leather work but I might take a stab at a sword in the future.

Recommendations would be appreciated-

So far I only have:
Records of the Medieval Sword
Geschichte der Dänen

I am looking at books Kevin mentioned:
Die Germanische Tierornamentik Der Valkerwanderungszeit: Studien Zu Salin's Stil I (Vorgeschichtliche Forschungen) (need to see if it is available for less than $630)
Illerup Adal Volumes 11 & 12 (reasonable price but it is tempting to get the whole set)

I have The Book of the Sword by Richard F. Burton. I think it's a good book on history and has a few pictures but it I don't know how well regarded it is.

Thanks-

That one looks good and generally has good reviews. I'll find a copy.
More please?

All of sir Ewart Oaekshott books.
Swords and Hilt Weapons, (ISBN 0-297-79644-5) has a lot of good pictures.
The "Wallace Collection" catalogues.
The "Poldi Pezzoli Museum" catalogues.

So, now I have ordered:

-The Book of the Sword: With 293 Illustrations

-The Sword in Anglo-Saxon England: Its Archaeology and Literature

-The Archaeology of Weapons: Arms and Armour from Prehistory to the Age of Chivalry

-British Iron Age Swords And Scabbards

-A Knight and His Weapons

-European Weapons and Armour: From the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution

-Swords of the Viking Age

Is it possible for you to guide me with links to The "Wallace Collection" catalogues and the "Poldi Pezzoli Museum" catalogues?
Thanks
Dean

I've pretty much hit my limit already but I'm curious about the "Poldi Pezzoli Museum" catalogues.
Do you have a link or an ISBN number?

I bought the Wallace collection catalog.
Thanks-

Yes yes...I have that one already and I really like it.
I think I'm pretty set for now with all these books coming in. I enjoy having books like these easily in reach and since they are almost all used, the cost is not too painful.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Dean
