History behind Buck 112 Autos?

My boss gave me this 112 Auto the other day. I tried to find the history of this model. Were they factory? Conversions? Is there a way to get an age of the knife itself? Thanks in advance.

The little upside down U on the blade just after the 112 makes it a 1997 and these auto's were a conversion done by many individuals or companies. Not by Buck.

Ok, thanks. There are initials etched on the opposite side. I'd have to check though, as I forget what they were.
