Hey guys, I have a GEC #15 sheepsfoot EO, Scout branded knife and was wondering on the history of the two. When did EO start showing up and what does the "scout" brand on the shield symbolize. Does it refer to Cubs/Boy Scouts or something more military, like the scouts that go out first to "scout" on the enemy? I think the later would be extremely cool.

I would imagine that scout knives started up right after the movement started in the US - 1910 or so.

The oldest catalog reference that I have for an easy opener is this one from the 1899 HSB catalog:

And one from the1902 Worthington catalog

The oldest examples that I personally own are the third and second from the right in this one - ebony handled H&B (1852-1916) and bone handled Globe (1900s-1920s):

The far right knife is an Ulster.
