Who made the first Canoe style slip joint and when?

Is it a US pattern?

Is it really traditional or just sort of traditional looking? (Begging the question, "What is traditional?")
 
I have no idea! I like the pattern, but only have one.

Hopefully some one with knowledge will drop in.
 
umm me thinks we need a list of patterns and their origins. i've been wondering about the congress and stockman patterns myself.
