Does anyone know why the stylized dragon, found so frequently on HI handles and blades, seems to have the tail of a sea monster- when Nepal is so high and landlocked?

I have other manufacturers dragon khuks and they have the same tail. I recall reading that they use the dragon as decoration, but it has no symbolic meaning. Maybe they saw a chinese dragon years ago and liked it and it's become a tradition to do that style. ???

It's easy to see how a lot of cultures believe in dragons... if you found a brontosaurus skeleton in the rocks, with no other explanation you'd be looking for another, maybe live, one.

But the sea-monster-lookin' dragon in Nepal... with a paddle-shaped tail for swimming... seems strange.

Maybe they're thinking more of a stegosaurus, and it's not a paddle, it's a bone ridge for cutting predators a new one?

More likely, the legends derived from a crocodile than a fossil. What fossils were, aren't as obvious in the ground as in our modern museums.
