The proper answer is Brown Brothers, or Brown Brothers Razor Co. Tidioute Cutlery Co. is incorrect, they were not forerunners of Union Razor or Union Cut Co., Brown Brothers purchased the first Tidioute Cutlery Co, but they were the ones who became Union Razor, not Tidioute. Tidioute Cutlery Co. was re-formed after the Brown Brothers moved to Olean and had no relation to Union Razor or Cut Co.

April 29, 1897

In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a group of 38 men form a Limited Partnership, known as Tidioute Cutlery Company, to manufacture and sell cutlery. The formation is now widely considered to be the beginnings of KA-BAR Knives, Inc.

1902

Mr. Wallace R. Brown purchases the assets of the Tidioute Cutlery Company, and applies to the Governor of Pennsylvania to form a corporation, the Union Razor Company (later changed to Union Cutlery Company in 1909), for the purpose of manufacturing and selling cutlery.

Brown Brothers Razor Co. Was a trademarked name registered by Union Razor Co. From my understanding after Tidioute Cutlery Company's assets were purchased by Wallace Brown. Tidioute was formed before Union Razor in 1897, then Reformed under Union Razor 1902.

Correction: Brown Brothers was probably a Company before the purchase of Tidioute then forming Union registering the name Brown Brothers under Union. Emerson and Wallace Brown were nephews of the Case brothers, and the name KA-BAR comes from an acronym for Case Brothers. It is debated that Marketing came up with the Kill'd a Bar story, but I digress.

Brown Brothers Razor Co. was in Little Valley, N.Y. before 1900, the name wasn't just a brand used by Union Cut Co. and the Brown Bros. merely purchased the Tidioute firm as a new and larger factory for their operation which then became Union Cut. Therefore the Brown Bros. were the forerunner of Union, not Tidioute.

Regardless of the real actual right answer the winner was chosen based on the OP's knowledge at said point and time.

So, Guyon and MRN8 were right......even if they were technically wrong. Get over it ;)

Hey, I was just going by the Ka-Bar website and A.G. Russell's page. But what do they know? I'll ask my resident historian at Ka-Bar and if gunsil is right, or even close to right, I'll send him a knife too.

Is it pronounced "tiddy oot", "titty out" or what?
