Hi everyone. It has been a while since I have posted here on BF.com. I figure there are two reasons for my lack of contributions:

First, I recently acquired an older Jeep Cherokee that needs tons of TLC. Twenty-nine years old with less than 66,000 miles on the beast. The thing has just been parked most of the time with little done in the way of maintenance. Much of my time is now spent with the Jeep instead of reading and posting here.

Second, I have found that I am pretty happy with what I am now using.
I look at new knives and even though I enjoy some of what I see, there is little that I am willing to purchase because of poor quality/design or prices are more than I feel the knife is worth. I guess I am at a point of diminishing returns so to speak.

Even though there are a select few knives I still want to buy (a small Insingo, some sort of Spyderco, to name a couple) it appears that I may be effectively done with knife buying.

I've enjoyed my time here on BF.com with all of you but, I find that I wonder if I am burned out on buying knives or have I just hit a wall? Anyone else ever go through something similar to this? If so, how did you make it through?

Back in 2006 i bought a lot of knives built a nice collection but I was burned out (financially and with the hobby) and like you I thought I had finally found what I was looking for. I took a break, pursued other interest and it took a while but eventually the bug bit me again and I started looking for more knives. I had a new need to fulfill and it was fun to hunt for blades again. Its ok to take a break and have fun with something else. I maintained my wish list and still work on it today.

Its normal. I took last year off. Now I get some time on my overnights to play here and a little hobby fund going. Its an on/off relationship with the forums. But I always love and use my sharp-pointy objects.

Well, I've always spent more time forum-ing my hobbies than actually doing them. I dropped out of knives for about four years and went mainly to guns, but that hobby is more expensive, and even though I'm largely on the same side politically, I got pretty tired of how every discussion turned into a toxic political fight about the tiniest doctrinal differences. That's not as much of an issue with knives. Now I'm back to guns being largely a tool and not a hobby, and knives being the hobby of choice.

Kinda there now.. Been in this hobby for 45plus yrs.. Got more knives than I will ever need.. John

Different hobbies tend to distract me from others and always have.... I have been big into running, camping, collecting wine, snowboarding, buying musical gear and performing, cars, watches, etc. and with a full time job and kids, it’s hard to spend time with all of them.

I have only been really into knives for about a year and went absolutely crazy with buying. I am looking at my collection and have no regrets at all (mainly thanks to advise from the folks on BF). I love everything I have bought (Spyderco, ZT, Kershaw, Benchmade, Opinel, Fox, ESEE, Cold Steel, etc.) and actually have a use for all of them.

Having said that, my buying days are winding down for the foreseeable future as I have great knives for just about every possible use I can dream up and buying much more would just be collecting. I have no interest in owning one type of knife in multiple colours or in every “supersteel”.

I am really considering buying one “great” knife like a CRK, Medford or Hinderer, but that should be it for a while if I actually pull the trigger.

I personally just get bored and need to focus my spare time on other things from time to time. Nothing wrong with that.

I kinda know how you feel. Me personally, I found a rotation that I really like and no other knives are really interest me. Past few years I've bought and sold dozens of knives and now there aren't really knives I don't own that intrigue me or that I would use over what I have in my current rotation.

The hobby has more categories to explore if you find yourself wanting more but just not liking anything.

There's the vast world of traditionals to explore, and there's the vast world of knives from the past.

But nothing says you absolutely have to be spending money on knives, because I'm sure everything you own performs just fine.

I think you should buy 2-3 more just for "research" purposes.
LOL. I like that idea.

There are a few on my short list. I am not sure about all of them but here's the basic idea:

1. A CRK Insingo- I'm thinking small over full size.
2. Buck Froe- for in the camping gear.
3. Spyderco D'Allara- don't currently own an EDC Spyderco.
4. MKAD Farko- to replace my beloved CRKT Prowler.
5. LionSteel TM1.

I am not really 100% on any of them but if I was forced to pick only three, it would be the Buck and the Insingo for sure. I know that I want some sort of Spyderco for EDC carry but the jury is still out on which one. The D'Allara checks more off the list of features I look for than any other Spyderco I've ever seen.

The Farko and TM1 are both up in the air. I think that I could be happy with either one but I plan to only get one of them. Probably the MKAD Farko because it is so close to a knife that I know I like.

In fixed, there's only three and they are all pipe dreams:

1. Survive! GSO.
2. Carothers Field Knife.
3. Carothers EDC fixed blade.

Doubt that I will ever get any one of these because I rarely use the fixed blades I currently own.

Lol, wrong saber cat... please disregard.

Let's see that jeep.
It's nothing special. Just a white XJ Cherokee with a grey interior. My cousin gave it to me because he had more vehicles than he could drive.

The Jeep replaces my Mazda MX6 that has 304,000 plus miles on it. KBB trade in value on the MX6 was only $57! So, I gave it to a friend that was down on his luck and he needs to save every penny he can. The MX6 gets better mpg than his other car. He is going to get a few of my knives, too.

His ex-wife really took him to the cleaners in their divorce. Poor guy.

Good on you for helping your friend.
I always had a soft spot for the 2 door Cherokee sport with the 4L.
More of the 99/00 vintage tho.
Good luck with the jeep.
As far as hitting the wall, the hobby will always be there. Come and go as time/money/interest permit.
