I put that nice piece of French ash wood on it, and since it's a carpentry axe, hung it at more or less 90 degrees, so with the belly of the handle as a straight line parallel with the cutting edge. That the edge has a radius is a bit puzzling. I am guessing that the last smid, Persson, being one not afraid to react to the demand of the market went ahead and did that but I think maybe he should have restrained himself. Probably it will get straightened out. It was interesting wood to work with and after roughing it out with another axe, just like the old Finns, decided to shape it further with only a carving knife which left a nice shiny burnished and faceted surface.
It's new. That form or pattern is always available and nothing special really, it's the secrets of the heat treatment that makes an axe a Hjärtum and since Perssons passing on there is some doubt if production will continue even.
