hk axis lock vs. benchmade axis lock

Hello, all.

I've just recieved a HK 14210 made by Benchmade and it's a great looking knife with great ergos. However, the axis lock is not as smooth as my other Benchmades. I can't disengage the lock with only my thumb, I have to pull it back with both my thumb and index finger. Anyone else with this problem?

The HK series with the AXIS lock was one of the smoothest knives I have ever used. My griptilian is the same as your HK - I need both fingers to engage the lock.

I've owned an HK 14210 and many other Benchmades. The HK is just as smooth as the rest I've had. The only difference I've noticed is that the cutout for the Axis stud is a bit longer on the HK model. I don't know why, but it has never affected peformance or anything.

I bet if you use it for a while it will get nice and smooth.

Some of the BM's I've had have needed a bit of opening and closing (flicking) before they got as smooth as I've liked.

I have 2 HK34's in different blades, and just got my BM14210SBT today...I don't notice any major difference in operation, but I do agree, the HK has a bit longer slot (travel) for the stud. But remember, the HK is almost 1/2' longer in blade lengrh, and a bit thicker. Thses are the smoothest opening blades I have...as of now....

Does it feel like it's binding when you do that? Like it cantilevers over to one side when you pull on that end, then binds once it's crooked? My AFCK did that when it was new (to where the Axis had to be disengaged with two hands), but the problem pretty much went away as it wore in.

Call up BM and ask them.

The one I have is smooth as silk.

I feel that the ARC is smoother than the AXIS, but it is like comparing platinum and gold. I honestly see no fault in either of the locks. Funtion and form of both locks are excellent.
