Got my HI Bowie today, thank you Uncle Bill. Exellent service as always.
Well, it is certainly a monster knife. I have been pondering for a while what it reminds me of and it has just come to me. It is a halberd blade with a handle. A very strong design, though I am not so sure for a belt knife! It certainly makes for a heavy knife.
I would go with the consensus opinion here that the khukri is a better design for a big knife. In comparison with my 15 inch AK, the khuk is by far the more pleasant to handle. The khuk is also lighter but with the blade design would I think it will out chop the bowie and with less effort. The bowie knife has a grip that is perhaps a little large for me. I really like the khukri grip which suits my smaller hands and is an ideal shape for a chopper.
I do have a love of more traditional pattern bowie's and I greatly look forward ( along with everyone else ) to seeing Yvsa's Scagel pattern model.
