Want to know what that...odd...title is about? Read on.
So, I was searching, (Oh, by the way, Hello, I am back for the moment
) for who knows what, when I was reminded of the older days, when I used to spend unholy amounts of time in front of the computer screen, looking at whatever tickled my fancy. I still search often, but not nearly as much time is spent in front of Safari looking at who knows what, nowadays. Now, I am throwing myself into 'ze arts n craffs', so there is little time to spare, until it is time to hit the sack, which is when I am tired...and I don't write these when I am tired...bad things happen when I write in depth stuff when I really want to keel over and snore....
But, enough of that. What I am trying to say, is, after a productive day of artwork, I said to myself, 'go ahead, surf the web, you deserve it...." So I did. And instead of art supplies and whatnot, I searched for something that I would rarely use, in comparison: I looked for edged tools. Found them I did. Looked upon them I did. And what did I find? Troves of stylized steel. In particular, I found a knife by a dude named Onion, while the knife is called Redemption. It looks...relatively useful, about the size of a medium small machete, black as night, with a funky, ergonomic-ish handle. In the end, I doubt I will ever truly know what I am talking about when it comes to knives and their ilk, though they sure are purty when they're made well.
But it was more than the flow of the structural lines in the knife that got me...it was the NAME as well. Redemption. Call me a sucker for dramatic, epic names, but I would seriously name a knife something like redemption, especially if I used it to save my behind from terrorists, thieves, murderers, and wrongdoers in general.... I just love names steeped in meaning. Whereas, if you name your knife Billy Be Sharp the twenty second...it just...doesn't have the same RING and MAJESTY to it, you know what I mean?
So, I have decided, after much deliberation, to name my phone...THE HERALD. Oooooh, special, I LIKE IT, I LIKE IT WELL...kidding. Seriously, though...I think there can be a lot of attraction generated, if one pours their skills, heart and soul into making and naming a name good, I think people appreciate the knife more, than if the blade is called 'Billy be Sharp'. Because...as funny as Billy Be Sharp is to me, I would rather be deep fried in a giant pot than go to war, and unsheathe my ultimate weapon BILLY BE SHARP!!!! Sorry, Billy be Sharp, you don't...you don't *sniff* CUT IT FOR ME *sniff*!!!?!?!?!? (I actually made up Billy on a whim, it is not me seeking to insult anyone with the same name.... If anyone is named Billy here, please accept my humblest apologies if I offended you. I mean that with all seriousness. Peace.)
So, I have an idea...what if we, the Cantina people, someday, catalouged the lineup of HI, and...NAMED them. Every single one of them. With deep, meaningful names that will help people, most people anyway, connect with the knife, make them feel like it speaks to THEM as a person. Let me know what you all think. Crazy? Crazy good? Crazy in between? Whatever the case, you know I'd love to hear from my favorite nook on the web. And, if you all actually believe it to be a good idea, let me know, I am a semi decent writer and I have an extremely active imagination for names...we could all feasibly, maybe even EASILY, accomplish it.
Peace.
David
