Hmmmm...how many times can I put a 3MIL into a post?

I was amused while reading the post.
RB - pm or email me your address - I'll ship you a small flat rate box of fatwood to play with . (the spring ESEE fest thread has a pic of part of the log Shotty11 found and I drug out of the woods)

Nice post, and great pix again. To me it's all about practice. Every time I go into the bush I try to practice with reliable tools. Mother nature and ESEE provide reliable tools, that when coupled with practice, greatly increase your chances of success.

That was a nice thread. It brought a lot of things to mind that I never would have considered for using as tinder. I really like the job you did on the fuzzy sticks.

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the thread. I was traveling light and using the knife as a tool, a pointer, and for size reference, only after I edited all the pics did I realize how much it looked like a 3MIL commercial. I'm glad you all caught the actual meaning of the thread :)

Excellent way to express yourself, without the knife I simply wouldn't be able to follow the story line:D

Nicely done, and my 2 cents aren't worth much but:

if you need a fire you need it NOW, who really cares how you obtain ignition..?

:thumbup::thumbup: from me..

take care,

Great post Mistwalker! Last time I checked there was no cheating in survival.:D

You win. It was almost like a Where's Waldo. That knife kept popping up everywhere.

Oh, how do you like the serrations. I've never been a serration fan. But, the ESEE serrations are different than others. I also see that you sharpen the backside of them. Do you find they help you in your every day cutting chores, or do they have a tendency to get in the way?

Thanks bro, that's because you are a knife nut like the rest of us, easier to catch the gist of things if presented using a knife :)

Exactly, survival is about surviving....

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it.

That's exactly the thoughts instilled in me by my mentors...a Grand Father who was a Pathfinder in WWII, a father who was a Marine in Korea, and two "uncles" who were green berets in 'nam all passed on that train of thought to me.

LOL maybe you should my a fatwood handle for it :)

Lol, would definitely have to be cord wrapped, that stuff gets sticky and messy used in hands any length of time. I've used it for batons before whittling without a cord wrap would suck!

Lol, yeah but it sure looked good doing it!

I like them a lot actually, good for striking a ferro rod and really helpful with making and cleaning up notches on fire boards and stuff. I do like the thicker blade of the Ontario RAT3 I have better in some ways, the grind doesn't go into the spine so...less flex, instills more confidence in the blade and all that...but I keep coming back to the 3MIL for the better handle and the serrations. I've put it through hell and it just keeps going.

A thread on tinders I posted in the W&SS section

I guess I should be more careful, next people will be saying I'm shilling for Jef Randel

LMAO, now I am wondering how many times today I am going to choke on my coffee, that was hilarious man thanks for the laugh.

I think we all need a vacation, I'm thinking about running away and hiding in the woods for a few days starting December 26th lol.

Thanks Jeff, glad you enjoyed the post.

The two are part of a set for me.

Great pics and post Mist!

I don't see all the turmoil about using fatwood. My folks originated along the NC & TN border and I'm sure I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for fatwood to start fires in the stove, fireplace/heater or what they called "rich pine."

Like you mentioned after high humidity and days/weeks of soaking rain fatwood is the only sure way to have a fire short of a flamethrower.

Yeah, it's just hard to get guys who have lived their whole lives in the mid-west hardwood forests to understand just how wet it gets here. I guess maybe they think it really is smoke in the air in the Smokeys lol.

I can still remember my first calculator & I thought I had made the grade then . . .
Still enjoy your posts, don't ever stop speaking your mind . . .

Well, it gets me in trouble some times, but I usually speak my mind even if subtly lol.
