im in IL and thinking that when i graduate college i want to treat myself to a wilderness survival class or something to that note.......i am in college so it cant be to bad on my pocket book but i am looking for somehting good.......who has any sujestions....or who has done some and can tell me about the experiance?

I've had one of those courses once, not this one in particular but a pretty renowed one... And I've been pretty disappointed.

Fact is it costs quite a lot of money and it's pretty short, so instructors will be rushing the things all the time. Not that great IMHO.

If you have minimal basics in backpacking/outdoors you'd better find a bunch of other outdoor enthusiasts, buy a few Survival/Bushcraft/Primitive skills... books and try methods with them (don't forget safety procedures).

Start easy. Build competence and confidence. Learning by yourself will bring you a lot more satisfaction and better master. On the other hand it's a lot slower.

What are the prices like on the Mountain Shephard Course?

Most of Mountain Shepherd's courses range between $100-$400 per person. There are times when you can catch a price for a course less than $100. You simply can't beat that price for that level of instruction. Heck, I'd pay a $100 bucks just to get out of the house for the weekend, survival or no survival! :D

I would contact them to find out exact prices as they can change. Byron is a great guy and I hope to be doing some training with him this fall.

Soup- Thanks for the general idea on the pricing. I might have to check these guys out as they are in my area.
