I recently received what I was told is a prototype of a Jake Hoback A15. It definitely looks like an A15 and has the mark but there are a few differences which actually makes me believe it is an early model. Just curious about materials and what I actually have. Very sturdy, well put together knife. I'm new to the knife world and want to learn. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Yeah, I noticed the currents ones have the lanyard piece on the back and the flipper/guard on the blade. Guy I got it from said he wanted it more "raw". He's in the military like me. It's nice but I'm not sure I care for the shape. First custom for me though. I can tell it wasn't used much. Hadn't been broken in and is a little stiff opening but flips well. Said he has had it a safe for some time.

Thanks for the help! I actually like the coloring on it a lot. It's more of a distressed or "apocalyptic" style like are done sometimes. I usually prefer the "bigger ladies" like cleaver style blades. Hence the chopper and C101.

You want to learn, so learn....the blade grind is a DEAD rip of the Lone Wolf Knives Paul Presto in a horribly unflattering handle configuration.

What exactly do you want to learn?

Heard back from my friend and was told it was a pre-A15, which would make more sense seeing the shape. But who knows.

Handles don't bother me but to each his own. I was trying to figure out blade material and any other tidbits from people who might own something similar and can just share some knowledge.

So...you don't really want to LEARN....you just want information on a knife you purchased....OK.

No big deal, I will try again. Learning about knives (including the ones that you acquire) is the basic concept. This PARTICULAR thread is based around one knife but other knives being referenced in relation to it obviously would be beneficial. I'm knew to all of this but enjoy learning about all of the different facets.

Well, I heard back from Jake. Really friendly guy. He actually did recognize it and thinks it was like the 6th one he ever made. Pretty cool you find out. CPM154CM blade and titanium handles.

Glad you found out. I've seen a lot worse looking 6th knives before.
