I have a NEW (Satin ATS-34) Hobbit Warrior "on the way" to me from a trade I made with a fellow Forumite (Murray/ProEdge).

Since I have never handled (or even seen!) a REKAT Hobbit Warrior "in person" (I DID own an AL Mar Satin Warrior, but that is a totally "different" knife due to its' increased size & weight), is there anyone here who can tell me:

1. What is the handle made of?, and how does it feel as far as "texture" goes...Is it "grippy"?

2. Are the finger-grooves as narrow as they look in the REKAT Web-site photos, and are they comfortable? (I have fairly "fat" fingers, and wide hands, so I'm concerned about the "fit".).

3. How is the "balance", and about where is the "balance-point" of the knife?

Thanks in advance for the answers that I'm sure to receive from my fellow REKAT addicts.

Gee Dann -- hate to see you go 4 hours w/out answers. So will give it a whirl.

1) G-10. I don't know.

2) Handle length is 4 15/16". From the picture, it appears that at least an inch is rearward of the last finger groove. So, at a max, the grooves occupy 3 15/16". That isn't real wide if you indeed have "fat" fingers.

3) I don't know. I don't know.

Wish they were better answers. Thought about making them all the same as #3, but am just too kind a person to do something like that.

I guess I'll answer because I do own one.

1) G-10? Pretty grippy and spongy for G-10...at least. Feels like rubber to me.

2) I have small hands and they fit pretty good so you might have a little problem.

3) The balance is not at the hilt or "center" of the knife but since this model is designed especially as a reverse-grip fighter (in fact it feels really funny when held in sabre grip), this question might be a moot one.

Don't have my HW handy. Just my trainer(early morning, first cup of coffee).

The handle is a shoe grade of rubber. It is very good for retention and last well. I have used my trainer every day for over six years.

The finger grooves are probably not as deep as they seen in the picture you saw. I have glove size large hands with a crooked trigger finger they fit me well. I have also done a couple of classes with Bob and had nobody that had a problem with them. Both classes were mixed with a lot of size variations both women and men in them. There was nobody that I remember that had a problem due to the size of the grooves.

The balance is in the palm of the hand or neutral.

Hope this helps. You have gotten the BEST CQB
blade out there.

Cheers,

ts

In my fruitless effort at humor, I managed once again -- I do this all the time -- to confuse the Hobbit Warrior with the Pocket Hobbit. So, the #s for handle size were wrong. Sorry about that.

According to 1SKS, the Hobbitt Warrior's handle is 4.4" in length. Again, there appears to be at least an inch twixt back edge of last groove and end of handle. Have you considered putting your fingers on a diet?

Bugs3x,

...But my wife LIKES my big, "fat" fingers! If I put 'em on a diet, she'd probably kick me outta the house!.

SIFU*****SIFU*****SIFU- if ya dont have a SIFU, whats the use of having ANY REKATS - the SIFU is the top of the line, IMHO

I like the balance of this knife, and I can see (feel) where this knife is made to be used in the "reverse-grip" style, as the hand-guard doesn't seem to feel quite right when held in a forward-grip (hammer grip, etc.). Also, I am pleased to report that the finger-grooves fit MY fingers very well.

Over-all I am very pleased with this Hobbit Warrior.

Todays the day!!!!

My wife checked out my Hobbit Warrior, yesterday, {But refused to participate in swap, probably because "She who must be Obeyed" was not the HW recipient)but said thats its "FAT", #1 & #2 son loved it also.

Of course they DIDN'T bring it back to me, to further prolong my suffering.

I have the cutting board cleared, bagels ready (thanks Ken), C-D's loaded in boom box, and training room cleared for some PM blade work.........

Well, last nite I was a little bored, so I took a couple of files and various grits of sandpaper to the underside of my new Hobbit Warrior, rounding-off the SHARP edges. That really made a big difference in how it feels in my hand.

While "playing" with my "Warrior" this morning, I also discovered that I had been holding the knife too high-up on the grip, sort of forcing my hand into the "top" of the hand-guard. Lowering my grip just a little made a world of difference in the "feel" of the knife.

If you like to train reverse grip, definitely order the trainer. Once you have played with it for a few weeks, you will be doing even more happy dances.

DPD.

No, the trainer will not fit in the "standard" Hobbit Warrior Kydex sheath. I believe that the "blade" of the trainer is thicker than that of the "real" knife.

Well...After "playing-around" with this Hobbit Warrior some more, I have come to the sad conclusion that the grip really DOESN'T fit my LARGE hand very well after-all...

.

I am looking to trade this Satin Hobbit Warrior to someone (with small to medium sized hands), for a NIT Sifu, with black G-10 scales.
