a few years ago i remember seeing a tactical fighter out in the knife world called a hobbit(?)produced by round eye knife and tool (?) anybody have any info about the blade, maker ,price, quality ? or was this all a dream

Yep, that was the Pocket Hobbit from the now defunct Round Eye Knife And Tool (REKAT). It's locking mechanism was the "Rolling Lock" which has since been bought by Benchmade and is available on their Ambush model.

I love the look of the thing though, though I'm not nuts for the handle material. G-10 isn't my thing.

Dunno 'bout a neck knife per se, but there was a fixed blade version:

James Keating shows using it in his Draw Point I video. Looks nasty!

Yes, there were (at least) 2 REKAT neck-knives; The "Hobbit Fang" (I have one), and the "Utility"...(I think it was called the "Utility").

The Hobbit Warrior was a pretty good fixed-blade "fighter" (for reverse grip), but the huge AL Mar Warrior totally blew it out of the water.

You're right, Dann. It was the UNK -- the Utility Neck Knife. It was the more conventionally shaped of the REKAT neck knives.

They also made a model with a lever lock (not sure if there was a more specific name for the lock) and they were also sometimes labeled "Pocket Warrior" as well as "Pocket Hobbit."

I thought the saw on the back of the blade was a survival feature, but as it is explained on the snipercountry website, it's more like a viscere's saw, reaaally bad and nasty stuff.
During WWI, such kind of modification on any trench knife was called "scie a tripes" and any german soldier caught with that kind of tool was immediatly executed... no need to say that the germans stopped real quickly to use it
Anyway, anything designed to kill a human being has been so much improved, that this knife could be seen as a bad joke, but it is not, and besides the down straight ugly look of that knife, the saw takes too much material of the knife to give it a good wear resistance IMO...

First came the AM Warrior - designed by Bob Taylor and Randy Wanner as a 7.25" reverse grip fighter. Teeth are more for trapping than sawing. Well received, but thought by many to be a little "overbuilt" and heavy. Then came the Hobbit Warrior - 5" version that was very well received and debuted at SOF Convention. Most variations of the breed. After that came the Pocket Hobbit - 3.75" fast deploying folder. First versions of the Rolling Lock had a lever, later replaced by button. Following that was the Hobbit Fang - great little neck knife. There were two other planned variations that only got to the prototype phase - Gaijan and Pygmy Warriors. Pygmy was a fixed blade version of the Pocket Hobbit and three protos were produced. The Gaijan Warrior was a full sized (7.25") version built as originally envisioned - lighter and faster than the Al Mar, sixteen protos produced (3 green, 13 black). Put one of these in the hands of someone familiar with the AM version, and they get that "far away" smile. Handle mold for Hobbit and Warrior was lost, destroyed, or stolen - never able to get full story.

Hey Matt,

Glad to be of service! Another little detail - both the Pioneer and Savant Swept Point versions share the same point configuration and belly of the Warrior series, but no saw teeth.

Mike,

In like flint again! BTW, still saving my pennies so I can get a "Far away smile" going.:D

Abit OT, but...
Somewhere I read a suggestion, that you shouldn't carry these knives clipped under the belt buckle. Reason. When you try to show one to your friends, and begin drawing it, with a phrase "I'll show you my Pocket Hobbit...", this would not be understood correctly.:)
