Went out for a walk today...frickin cold outside!
Anyway, with all the foliage gone and the tall grasses dead, I was able to see this cool hobo A-frame shelter:

It would have kept the fellow warm enough for the fall, which is when it must have been erected (I check through this area quite often).

As someone made it to survive in a little more comfort despite having no actual home, I think it fits nicely in this section. :)
They made use of a pre-existing feature--the tree handily arrested in its fall at the correct angle--and were able to make things better or themself with almost no expenditure of energy.

They probably should have cleaned up afterward, but this area gets plenty of garbage from all sorts of folks, and it would help out the next hobo who shambles along that way.

I stumble across this type of thing frequently in my job (surveying). I'm always wondering why the stuff is just abandoned? Or if the person is nearby and coming back?

Seems around here it is generally a 3-season sort of thing.
When winter strikes, those who cannot get into a shelter end up spending the nights in bank vestibules near the ATM and such.
I had to get one of them to leave a building I was working security at one year; I left him alone till someone coming into the building by that entrance complained. He went across the street to a bank vestibule.

During the spring and especially in summer, I have seen clothing left out to dry in the area, a fire pit recently used not too far away, and empty cans from beans, ravioli, beer and energy drinks.

The majority of garbage though, it comes from "normal" people tossing it over the bridge as they go by in cars, or while walking over it. Entire bags of trash just tossed into the area like it's a landfill. :thumbdn:

Mom; always with the questions.

Indeed. :D

I thought it might all be drunks and teenager activity in the area when I first happened across it.
Since then, I have seen things like a complete bedroll set-up, and the next day I saw the homeless guy it belonged to emerge from under the bridge with it all rolled up.

The area isn't too far away from soup kitchens, the Salvation Army, and busses into and out of town, so it makes a handy hobo spot. Also only a short walk from the only place in Windsor where anyone will give change to beggars, so there is that too.
