We don't have a "Rusty Knife" or "Ugly Knife" thread, but today I did find one that would fit in these categories. I was compelled to buy it, and show it. In true garage sale fashion, the owner claimed "it should clean up" during the price negotiations. I found it in the bottom of an old tool box, that was nearly as rusty as the knife itself.

Regardless of the origin of manufacture, or it's value, I was somewhat intrigued with the way everything somewhat fit together. I do believe the handles are a diamond cut material of some sort, double threaded steel bolsters and the fork and spoon are marked stainless. No other marks found yet. Not much in the way of walk and talk. I can't imagine putting it near my mouth, even if it was clean. I still have a little buffing to do on my swell-center hobo knife. Snide comments on this unique conversation piece would be welcomed.

I think I'll leave the snide comments out and let the knife speak for itself.:)

got a feeling I have seen something like this before with japanese markings.

I had one of those when I was a kid. It was a piece of junk then, but it might be worth something now. Or not. Most likely, not.

If the can opener bent that far without breaking, I kind of doubt that one is any better than the one I had.

Oh, it is still Japanese Junk, with a capital J. Still probably not worth the 75 cents I laid out for it. Especially being unmarked. :grumpy:

"It should clean up" have to be the most overused and meaningless words spoken at most gunshows. I always suggest that they go ahead and clean it, and I will give it another look afterwards. :D

I have one of those that used to belong to my grandfather. He kept it in a filling cabinet in his basement. I used to have lots of fun playing with it as a kid. You've inspired me to pull it out and play with it again.

"Hobos are travelers who are homeless and willing to do work, whereas a tramp travels but will not work and a bum does neither."

That's not a hobo knife. More like a bum knife. :D
