Anyone own/regularly use a hobo knife? If so, can you share your opinion about them? Also, besides Case, do any other mfgrs. make quality models? Thanks

I do not own one, but I have played with the, and they are very nice knives. Many manufacturers use to makle these, but kabar is the only one I know of that makes one also. Its not as nice and is reffered to as a "camp knife".

Shepherd hills cutlery is a good place to get the case ones from. Also smoky mountain has them at a decent price.

My apologies in advance, I'm a bit clumsy with navigating the forums. I must say, I'm surprised at the apparent lack of interest in my post re: the Hobo Knife. I rec'd mine from CASE the other day and used it today to eat my cream of wheat with raisins and brown sugar this morning and my Chinese takeout at noon. I had to sharpen the blade and the fork(using the sharpmaker for the fork). It is an interesing and above all, useful knife (tool). I can easily see why those who rode the rails during the depression carried these knives. :)

Beretta,welcome to the forums.
I love Hobo"s and use one of mine.It is a Case Rosewood and I hand picked it a year or so ago.Cool to carry a knife that you can turn into a eating utinsil.
I give them to grandkids and to other young people who are scouts and campers. Looking around I have a bunch of them from various makers.
Case,Henkels,Fox,Richardz,KaBar,and a bunch of no name old ones.Quality? You will have to make that decision yourself. The old ones are quality. The new stuff is touch and go.I love um all.Cool to play with.

When my son was born earlier this year a knife buddy gave me a Case hobo to give to him as his first knife. It also has a spoon on it, and after playing with it I’d like to get a couple more just to throw into my camping gear.

If you go to Bernard Levine’s web site he has some scans of an old mint Case hobo. Very nice.

This post made me remember my grandfathers hobo from ww1. It's packed away in a jumble of stuff that my dad has. Now I gotta go digging around come x-mas whenI go home. If I find it maybe i'll post some pics if anyones interested.

I called my dad about it and was told it's makin the rounds through the family in a box of old pics and things. I'm gonna track it down when I go home for xmas. I'll try and post a pic when I get back. Not sure if it's would be classified as a hobo because it only has a spoon and knife.

To the last gentleman who posted:

If you know of better quality hobo knives, I'd be interested in knowing who they are and where to get them. Given your response, I assume you are very well versed in this type of knife and would appreciate some of your insights if you'd take the time to post them. Thanks in advance.

I think Case makes some very nice HOBO's now days, I beleive all the ones they have aout now have the knife, spoon, fork. I like the ones that have the fork and knife a little better because they are a bit thinner, but then again the thickness of these newer ones is not so much that it really makes a difference. Case makes them in several handle patterns but I think the Amber bone looks the most traditional.

Texas_T I'd love to see a pic of that knife too if you get the chance, I love old stuff

Is that 2 piece Hubertus a folding knife? can't tell with the guard on the knife it looks like a fixed blade, quite nice looking though.

How's Kabar's version? I assume it's not as nice as the Case versions, but for the price is it worth it? Or should I just spring for a Case?
