Hobo Sharpener?

Yes - assuming you are referring to the unglazed ring typically found on the bottom of most coffee mugs.

It's more of a hone (I wouldn't want to try to work out a chip!) to maintain an edge, and it takes a bit of getting the mechanics worked out, but it's a tried and true trick for sure.

I was hoping this would be a thread about how to sharpen a hobo.

I share your disappointment. But yeah I imagine you could be that you could sharpen on a piece of unglazed ceramic. An abrasive surface is after all an abrasive surface.

God bless,
Adam

PS: Have you thought about maybe just carrying, perhaps, a ceramic sharpening rod.

A coffee cup should work, but like others have said, it's more of a hone.

There are a few cheap options for carrying a sharpening device easily, like a thin credit card sized diamond plate, or a diamond rod that's the size of a pen.
