Hoe Do YouCarry A Large Folder?

I hope this doesn't come across as being a really dumb question, but I need some suggestions on how to comfortably and efficiently carry my new Benchmade 520. Carrying it in my jeans pocket is fine until I try to deploy it: that's when the finely designed handle snags on the pocket lining. Seems the same configuration that makes for a secure hand grip also grips the cloth. Tried a couple of different nylon belt pouches I had and found the same problem: the pouch was fine for carrying, but difficult to draw the blade. I would think that any of the large folders with "grippie" (G-10 ro similar) handles would present the same sort of challenge. So: anyone have a suggestion?

I've had no problems drawing any of my large folders from my pocket. Even the G-10 ones.

I think it may just be a conflict between your specific knife and your specific jeans.

Well, if its tip-up, then I'd suggest trying a lanyard on it. One of the reasons some of my folders "stick" upon pulling them out is that the pressure on the clip and handle cause binding. A lanyard may help you to get the knife partly out and may help with that. As to how I carry my Strider GB (with the older square G10 scales and factory milled grooves), I use a pouch on my belt. Open the pouch, tug on the lanyard, knife in hand.

Hope that helps some.

I carry Inside-the-Waist-Band (IWB) of my pants at approx. 2 o'clock.

That may prove even more awkward, though.

You may not want to do this, but you can reduce the grippiness (spelling?) of the G10 with a Dremel tool or similar. Be sure to wear a mask. Then carry it in your jeans front pocket like God intended.

cheers

For pants or shorts with watch pockets, I slice the inside bottom of the watch pocket, allowing full insertion of larger folders in the watch pocket. The bottom of the folder will be in contact with your leg or your shorts.

There are fewer collisions between your folder clip and your wife's furniture with the knife carried higher, good access for drawing the knife and easier access to your larger main pocket. No help for concealment and no help at all for lefties.

This works with wider folders such as Strider SMF or Buck/Strider Tarani.

Hope this helps!

I like big folders in sheaths, but then rapid deployment isn't one of my priorities.
I love my 520 and do carry in pocket with certain pants. Other pants, I carry something else.:D
