Hoffman butchers steel

I found my old steel today. Hadn't seen it in years, but I used it all the time growing up. It has a wooden handle with lead laid in the handle and a chunk of lead as a guard. Anyone familiar with them? It sure will touch up a blade, and it looks to be old.
