I've been lucky enough to get this week off from work. It was really a treat to get the time off to be with my family.
I took my daughter for a short hike in the woods yesterday (after a few hours, we left and later brought her mom back as the sun was going down). Santa got my daughter a new digital camera for Christmas and when I suggested the idea of getting some nice nature shots, she was very excited about the idea of heading to the woods (and it got her to put down the game controller for the PS2 for a few hours).
Of course, no walk in the woods would be complete without some steel from Ohio. I put my Satin Jack TAC to work stripping branches and bark to make a walking stick from a fallen cedar tree that we found. The Rat Hunter was more of a poser, but I'm looking forward to the chance to put it to work on some game - sometime.
One year and one day ago, I took this same photo with my then brand-new Ratweiler in it. Same great weather on the Chewacala Creek in eastern Alabama as last year:
This is the creek looking back the other direction. On the left, the shore is reflecting the sunlight from the other day's rain runoff.
We spend a lot of time here walking on the rocks.
This is a shot looking back uphill from the above shot. If you look closely on the right hand side, you'll see a "where's Waldo" of my SJ and RH.
Here's the pair up close, with the SJ's new Spec Ops sheath.
Here's the SJ again with its sheath. I thought this big rock was cool the way it made a tunnel by resting on the rocks below. How did the rock get there???
Here's a photo of the RH with a SWAMPSHACK Poorguy hat (the camera kept focusing on the trees behind the knife, so it's a little out of focus):
Here's a little better picture of the Rat Hunter:
