Those who were around in 2007 will no doubt recall the HOG ASH-1 offer. Buy one ASH-1 LE and one CG ASH-1, and get a special HOG ASH-1 "for the original 1992 Steel Heart 1 price of only $167.00!!!!!."

There are many like it, but this one's mine:

I think this cleaning up after Hurricane Ike.

After a considerable amount of use and abuse, the muddy coating was getting sort of ratty looking around the edges (and chipped at the tip), and I thought I'd go ahead and strip it. I'd never tried stripping a knife before, but I figured that since this was the cheapest Busse I've ever bought, why not? My plan was to go whole-hog and give it the full satin treatment, but when the coating came off, this is what I found:

It looks an awful lot like Double Cut to me. In fact, here it is next to a black canvas and double cut ASH-1:

The finishes look darned near identical:

Interesting, the finish sure does look double cut. I'd leave it just like that John. I was a year too late to get in on that deal and it still hurts when I think about that. I wish I got one.

Unless what appears to be double cut turns out to be decarb and starts rusting, I'm leaving it as is.

Looks great !! Hopefully it stays and all decarb is gone cause that looks sweet !!!! Nice job congrats

That's awesome! Saw a few change hands in the exchange, but never knew the whole story.
Love the way it looks stripped with the Tigerhide!!!!!

Dont see those much anymore. Looks great.

Garth

....perfect reason to give them a "limited run" offer????.... That would be sweeeeeet:thumbup:

....Garth....THAT is a knife,the way a knife was meant to be. Supreme!!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

The nmfsh I recently stripped looks just like it. Also machine mark free. Were they once LE/satin blanks and in order to get the new designated powder coat to stick right they apply some sort of bead blast first? Wish I knew. Always cool to see whats underneath the skirt no less.

Happened to the tip of that Skinny, Eric? Was that underneath the finish, or was that the result of the applied chemical? Maybe difficult to tell I realize, but your best guess?...Cheers.

Oh its fully intact and as is from the factory. Just a little bit of coating left from strippin so I kept some stripper on it to break it down. She just needs a final cleaning.

Sometimes you get lucky with the stripper.
It would be nice if Busse treated all their coated blades like that.

If you're going to be stripping a lot of powder coating it's hard to beat this stuff, a gallon of it should strip a metric ton of INFI I reckon.

Submerge, crack a beer, wait, rinse….. it doesn't get any better than that.

I'm not sure if it will affect the handle materials though if you plan to leave them on…...
