Has anyone ordered belts from Hog abrasives? They have an ad in Jan. blade mag.The website doesnt seem to work. The prices seem good 3.69 for 36 grit ceramic.
Maybe it's just me but do ceramic belts last wayyyy longer? The first belts I ordered for my homemade grinder were the 3m blue's.since then I bought a KMG and ordered a batch of A/O belts which seem to dull rather fast.Maybe its just the better grinder??

I'm a huge fan of ceramic belts for hogging material, but I have never heard of "Hog" belts. If its not made by Norton or 3M I would be dubious of its origins. There's a lot of junk out there, and a lot of knock offs. A good belt pays for itself many times over.

Figures....buy cheap, get cheap :)
I took some advice from you experts here on BF as soon as a belt seems dull it gets put in CF #86 ;)

Joe, I believe Ed Caffery picked up a few of the Hog belts at the last Blade Show and they were crap. Norton Hogger's and the new Blaze belts are real good but spendy. I had run out of my heavier grit belts and got some AO locally. At first I couldn't see any difference on the way they preformed but in just a few minutes I was changing belts.

I used to use 3M's A/O belts for hogging, but I found out about company through Kevin Cashen called Finishing Technologies. I gave their zirconia belts a try and I'll never go back. I can easily grind 3 or 4 times as much with the zirconia, and they only cost $1 more.

Do you have a web address for Finishing Technologies? I tried Google, but found a bunch of companies with similar names, but didn't see any belts though. Thanks.

They don't have a website as far as I know. I ordered over the phone.
Their number is: 616-794-4001
They make the belts to your order, so they're a little slow getting them out, so order before you need them. :D I was stuck not being able to do any grinding for a week because I didn't know that. :)

Thanks. I think I'll stick with James Poplin. His prices are good and he ships superfast.

I really liked the hogger. The blaze seems just that much better again. I'm supprised that a company came out with two different belts is such short order. I haven't seen anything that last as long as the new blaze! Tru-Grit has a good price on them. Norton norazon really last on handle mat. very well. Mike

I get everything from POPS I can...........hell...he even shipps before you pay him! Thats SERVICE:thumbup:
