My black handled Kumar Karda "Couteaux du Chasse" showed up today. To my delight it was made by Sher, and if I weren't already a fan, I would sure be now. This knife is all business with it's "almost convex" Sher blade, and it's smooth black horn handle. Sher incorporated some very subtle and sophisticated ergonomics into the handle, resulting in comfort and handling that's downright uncanny. All in all, one tough knife, built to get the job done and take whatever's dished out. Not a gussied up wall hanger, this is a knife you'd want on your belt if you had to go walking through "the valley of the shadow". Once more I owe a debt of respect and gratitude to Uncle Bill and all the HI family.

BEFORE the pig roast...don't you have to get the pig?

Good hunting. Be safe.

Sher makes the best handles on anybody in the shop -- and probably all of Nepal. His younger brother, Kumar, is probably next in the handle category.

Many thanks for report from the field from another whose opinion you can count on.

That rascal started earning it's keep right out of the box. I gave it a few strokes on a hard Arkansas, stropped it hair poppin' sharp, and strapped it on my belt before heading off to my shire's Yule Revel party. There it peeled, diced, chopped, and sliced, enough potatoes, cabbage, and bacon, to fill two huge stock pots (yum, yum, my wee contribution was just one of many side dishes to accompany the main courses  ).

People passing by as I was peeling spuds would invariably stop dead in their tracks and stare in astonishment at the speed and dexterity with which the big knife (in their uninitiated eyes) was getting the job done. What a joy to use! Throughout the food prep the smooth horn handle never felt slippery due to it's excellent design, and the edge stayed, unsurprisingly, as sharp as when I started.

The frog on Kumar Karda scabbards seemed odd to me at first blush, but now that I've been wearing 'em a while I've come to appreciate the logic of their design. They hold the knife/scabbard close in to the body and high up on the belt. Quite comfortable and concealable. Good thing too, or else the scabbard of my "black handled knife" would be poking out from under the shirt of my battle dress uniform right now. This is one of those knives that could easily become a standard part of "getting dressed".;) :D

And that's exact : Sher's handles are superbs!!! My K.Carda and my BAS by Sher are P-E-R-F-E-C-T !!!!

Stephen, does your Kumar Karda have the fancy Newari carved wood handle? If so, isn't it exquisite? I'm happy now I can save mine for special dress occasions and use the horn handled one for yoeman duties. I showed the horn handled one to a friend this morning, and the first comment he made was, "hmmm, that's weird, the handle looks like it would be slick, but when you grip it, it grips back". The second comment he made was the one every one makes, and I swear if one more person says, "this knife has got some heft to it", I'm going fetch my 18" AK and educate 'em about "heft". ;)
