HOG Levels?

Well since Boss Hog hasn't formerly answered the "Who's a HOG" question perhaps he is still waiting for us to sort it out a little more.

That or he is just laughing his arse off as we all scramble for a piece of INFI! :p:p:p

But if we did have levels what would that look like?

Hmmmmmmm...

There could be...

(1) CG HOG: Someone who usually buys a few to use. (that's me)
(2) LE HOG: Has a decent collection. Some users and some safe queens.
(3) Variant HOG: Has some really rare models as well as some safe queens and users.
(4) Uber HOG: Has so much INFI he/she has altered the Earth's magnetic field.

What'cha guys think? Just for fun. :D

What you are not taking into consideration is the community, I think that the major participants here are at a higher level regardless of how big their horde is. There are some guys who have done things like pickup a grail knife for a buddy without even being asked, and giving away infi, that no matter how small their collection gets they will always be mega HOGs. While I also feel that there are some others who buy large shipments of infi only to resell it that should be forever piglets. I (for my own convenience) happen to think that the actual size of ones collection should be one of the last things considered when ranking HOGs.

If there are going to be levels, then from lowest to highest, here is my preference for what the names should be:

1. Ham Hock
2. Spare Rib
3. Ham
4. Pork Loin

Just my .02. :D

Don't forget:

(5) Stealth HOG: You don't know what they've got. They don't post pics. They don't get on the board and gush about INFI. (Not that there is anything wrong with the above... I do both of the above. ;)) All you see are the tracks around the trough and an absence of INFI.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Bad thread title on my part.

I think I didn't word my initial post correctly. I was not thinking in terms of highest to lowest or best to worst. More of a classification. How do you fit in as a HOG? None better than the others. That's all.

A lot of newbies, myself included, used to think a HOG was only someone who had a ton of INFI! But as we have all discussed, being a HOG can come in many forms. But, as mentione above, there is so much more to being a HOG than the INFI by itself. (Bravado just fired a nuke my way). :p

I was just making a list in my initial post. #1 was not any better than #4. Sorry for the confusion. It's all good to me. :)

I think there should just be Hogs and piglets. Piglets would be the newer guys/gals to the Busse community no matter how many knives they buy or have. The hogs would be the guys/gals that have been around a little bit who participate on the forums, even to a limited extent, and have at least a few Busse knives and have demonstrated a willingness to help the piglets and answer their questions.

To base it just on the number of knives owned would leave many the feeling of being left out or lower class in a way. We all have different economic earnings and strains on said income. I would hate to see a Busse enthusiast feeling left out just because he/she doesnt have the disposable income to have a certain number of knives.

Thats my two cents. :p

Per the BOSS

I am just a "Bacon Burner Turner" and I LIKE IT!!:D:thumbup:

CB: Well said. I tend to agree. I think Hogs and Piglets is an easy system that includes everyone. I used to, for what ever reason, have the impression that only those with small fortunes were considered HOGS.

This will probably open a can but... I also feel that having to make it to a show to become a HOG is a bit unfair as well. For many, the shows are a long way and would cost an arm and a leg to attend. Although I plan to make it one day mostly to meet you guys in person finally. (and to score an SFNO at show prices :D). This is why I fully support the "On-line Induction" in the other thread here.

This topic comes up from time to time and you will see many people say things like, "I'm not sure if I'm a HOG but...". So it is not all that clear. I just think there should be a more clear cut way to achieve this so people know where they stand.

But, again, this thread isn't intended to step on any hoofs. ;) You guys know me better than that. I hope. :)

But what about "Pork Rinds"?:eek:

Man... I dunno what I am... I was tapped, and so I'm a HOG. But... I still FEEL like a piglet 'cause I'm still rather new here, relatively speaking! Oh, the confusion!:confused: :D LOL

I'd call you a HOG for sure. But this is my point. There should be more clarification IMHO.

And of course BOSS HOG is the one who makes the call but I was just wondering what you guys thought. And if the official definition classifies me as a Piglet I will wear that badge of honor with pride. :D

Getting the "official" tap from "The Boss" is good, but in my opinion, a true Hog is based on reputation as a good human to other owners. Not just your collection but your moral character. It takes time to get the good reputation and it can't just be a sometime thing. So to be a true "HOG" you've got to earn it by your actions and not your $$.
If INFI is bought to flip then you are a buisnessman and not even a bacon dropping as far as I'm concerned and you're just a parasite on this site.
Sorry if a little OT but it's been on my mind every time I see a thread like this.

well I own an AD, have a FBM coming, then have dibs on a meaner, then I think a BATAC will be next, ummmm I think there is more. I know there is more. GW or two, another meaner, a leaner meaner etc etc

currently a piglet if that, but I have grand aspirations of being a CG HOG!!!

taking the AD out hunting in 15 minutes, I hope it gets a chance to skin a fox.

I don't know where I fall in there. Last year I quit my job to be able to stay with my 72 year old Mother after her health took a turn for the worse. I have no disposable income (my brothers pay me a small salary for taking care of Mom), but 2 months ago I had never heard of INFI. I now own 3 Game Wardens, a BATAC LE, a sterile Tali Whacker, a Scrapyard Yard Guard, and a new Ratweiler. I feel pretty piggy!!!

We almost need to do this ourselves because Jerry can’t know all that goes on here.

He doesn’t know how many times Jaxx. OP, Guyon, Resinguy, Pbubsy and others have helped me get a knife. He doesn’t know that Cobalt spends hours with me explaining the differences between one SHBM and another. He can’t know how many emails I exchange with Porkducci to learn about SHSHs, and how many times Mulder answers my questions about SHBAs and SHAH1s. He can’t know how many times RonnyBear gives me direction or Progunner calms me down when I get pissed at flippers.

So thanks again to all those that have helped me enjoy these knives:thumbup: Especially Jerry, Amy-0, Skunk and Garth
