HOG Muk LE vs. CABS LE

I own a HOG Muk and love it as a smaller prep/bushcrafter - I passed on the CABS LE as at the time smaller Busses just did not appeal to me and I could not justify the price... Now that its been out for a good while, and earned its keep as a classic, I'm becoming more and more intrigued, especially since they seem to be popping up on the Exchange lately....

My question is, for those of you that own both the Muk and CABS: do they seem like they have a lot of overlap? Or are they different enough to warrant owning both? Which do you prefer for a small bushcrafter/food/animal prep?

Appreciate the insight and help!!!

For an all around knife- and true BLAZING SHARP Busse slicer- it could be the sharpest Busse there is (Cabs LE's or the CS CABS)- next after that would be the sar 6. It is just so light in your hand and the black paper is just perfect on the LE's. I really like the MUK too, but it just isnt the slicer the CABS is. The no choil on the CABS is amazing also if you have a choice.

To my hand they feel totally different, I know if I could have only one small Busse it would be a LCABS. I was lucky to get two Muks and I like them both as I modded one to fingerling style, its shown in the forum a while back as a Muk-up. I don't think the knives over lap, to me the ABS's are better bushcraft knives I like both but haven't yet found the perfect niche for the Muk.

I have the CABS and the MUK...actually two MUKS:rolleyes:, and currently the MUK is my main user as a food-prep, fish processing - "do it all" blade.
I like the MUK because of it's "character", the less usual blade profile, right size and I found the tip very useful at piercing and fine work.

The CABS is the "Busse F1" - it's just a more refined and finer blade. It has a more common minimalistic and very useful blade profile.

For me the MUK was easier to "broke in" as it is a more robust knife, and not so nice as the CABS...believe me, you need a CABS.:D

Thanks I agree that I need one :)

I'm assuming the "pointyness" of the CABS is rather advantageous over the MUK.

CABS the F1 of Busse. I like that.
I have both i love my CABS But honestly i still pick it over the Muck.
I need another CABS.

T'W', actually the MUK has a very useful fine tip, because it's more dropped point than on the CABS. minor differences, tho'.

I had a muk and a CABS. Sold the muk. The cabs does everything I need in that size knife. The handle was the dealbreaker. That is the most comfy knife I have ever held.

I'm keeping my eye on the SWAMP 411. Curious as to it's thickness...think it will make a great user as well and fit in with the ABS's.

you ever held a HRLM or RMD? that's comfy (CABS is close though)

never held a muk, but i love the CABS

I own both and have decided the keep the CABS LE...although the pumpkin MUK is by far more visually appealing. FWIW, I bought them specifically for cleaning animals and prefer the blade design of the CABS.

Hunting season will start in a couple month's, then this question can be answered if you can remember to bump it. I love my CABS and will never part with it. I also think the HRLM, can and will perform right along with the MUK in skinning and would like to see a comparison of those 3 when hunting season start's.

I've had both and sold both. I like the scrapyard mud puppy to do any of the tasks either of these could do.

+1. Anyone get their cabs or muk bloody yet?

Agreed^, I like my CABS, my only complaint would be that the handle is a bit small. If you have large hands it's something to consider... Another thing is the rounded spine, I don't care for rounded spines on anything (personal preference). Other than that it is an excellent knife.

I have both the MUK and the CABS. They are (obviously) very different knives. I think I prefer the CABS as a field utility knife and the MUK as a hunting knife only. The CABS seems much more versatile to me.

Both have thin handles but the CABS is just fine for my hands. The MUK however feels a bit slabbish.

I had a CABS and now a MUK, and i vote MUK, because it's a bigger blade in small categorie, just more usefull in all tasks

The muzzle loader season start's here in less than 2 week's, followed by the modern firearms. I should hopefully, have something to add to this very soon, as will other's I am sure. Glad it got bumped back up as it will be interesting once some meat is on the ground and all these new knives get put to work.
