As an internet bystander, I am only able to "see" the busse presence at Blade and KC through this and kin forums. Thank you for sharing.
Forget the rest of the show. How did the HOG TROUGH COMPARE BETWEEN THESE SHOWS?

1. At KC, Jerry had MOAR knives to sell, especially customs than Blade?

2. BLADE had more BUSSE giveaways and contests (eg catch the coupon, beer helmet)?

3. BLADE had more "Preview of good things to come"?

Do you agree with the above 1,2,3?
Whats did you see different between the two HOG TROUGHS?

thanks!
TT

Purely looking at pics, I agree with gimmejr!!! Wish I could be at both...

With exception to very delicious free cheesecake, No giveaways at knob that Im aware of. Blade, umm, no, dont go, you wont win free knives or any shop credits, nope, not at all :p:D. Last year spring knob debuted the boss jack and tmdsf whereas this spring nothing that I recall. At blade this year (my first), they previewed lotsa stuff. It may seem like more customs are offered at knob, atleast on Thurs in the Hotel because they put them all out at once (I was told) whereas they seem to put stuff out in batches at blade before and after the timed offerings.(knob seemed to have many more dogs this year atleast) If I had to choose to go to one or the other, I could not. I loved the set up at knob on thurs (no stompin just lotsa INFI tings from being tossed into boxes) but I also loved the stompin at blade for the limited models and freebies. Add the after parties where the man himself along with many other cool members show up, and I gotta say blade takes the cake. But man, knob has machine guns, and lots of them, and cheesecake :D. Like knives, get/go to both, NO REGRETS!!!!

Both setups were different this year.

At KC, like Eric said, there was a preshow where you could look and preview the knives for an hour. After that, it was a fast paced trough stomp. A few people hurrying all around trying to find the knives they saw 15 minutes before (they switched up the location of the knives). If you want debut knives, Terror Monkey/military overrun knives, here is the place. Lots of custom shop pieces and combat grade.

Blade, this year, they released blades in batches (as I recall last year they were put out all at once and were gone in 10 minutes. Also, last year, the few knives that survived were surrounded by pre order only knives. This year was nice because they switched up the inventory and you kept seeing new things. Plus, the after parties, sweet debut knives, beer upon beer upon beer, and the talking that goes on inbetween the tosses is very nice.

Busse did bring a lot more blades to KC and Blade this year :D

But, the two events have 3 things in common:

1) AWESOME knives

2) AWESOME people

3) Sales tax :(

:D

Real quick....its two totally different experiences as far as shows go....

KC is close and personal, and always starts Friday at the show. Its Nice, easy, relaxing, cheesecake, bourbon and guns. Nothing much for wife and little ones really and they are more in the way IMHO.

Blade is anything but, nice and easy. Its fast, wide open, tons of fun, need a vacation afterwards, boss shows up, the hogettes show up...need I say anything more? Blade is like nothing else:thumbup:

I go to lots of Knob Creek sales (the last 4 have been Thursday night only, at the hotel), and while I've never been to Blade, I've heard lots of stories about various years. For me, it's mainly about buying knives, and except for one year when the crew had boxes set aside for each day, they sell anything they brought starting from the opening bell at Knob Creek. You'll also tend to see a lot more old, one-or-two-of knives that were made from leftover blanks at Knob Creek, whereas Blade is usually oriented towards new releases. Blade has far better "show deals" and is much more social, having induction dinners and competitions for shop credits. Blade is also the largest knife industry showcase of the year, so they absolutely CAN NOT afford to run out of product at Blade, meaning that knives are rationed throughout the show -- the implementation of which varies each year. Blade has a more rahh-rahh, party atmosphere than I'd be comfortable with, but I understand why the people who go year-after-year enjoy it. It's nice to see the crew at Knob Creek; I like rubbing elbows with them and maybe having a piece of cheesecake, but by the end of the night, you've picked your knives, paid for them, and walk away -- unless you just want to hang out at the range, there's no reason to go back the next day, because you already got to pick from everything they brought. I REALLY like that aspect of Knob Creek, plus it happens twice a year and even more importantly (for me), it's about a 40-minute drive, versus a full day on the road from Louisville to Atlanta and having to stay at a hotel.

Jim, I really understand where you're coming from, but Blade is an experience you will NOT forget! For many of us it is the one time a year that we can get together with the Busse crew and all the fine folks who become friends. I would like to go to Knob Creek one time, but I would like to make it to Blade every year if possible!;):thumbup:

They are all great responses to what takes place at Knob Creek and Atlanta Blade show . I like both and hope to never miss one.

Went to Blade for the first time this year. Had a great time and took advantage of some of the offerings. I'm fairly new to the world of Busse, and would like to know more about Knob Creek in the hopes of attending the next show. Could someone please give me some insight? I did a real quick search on the net, but that yielded some old info at first look. Mainly I'd like to know what the dates are, what other knife makers attend, if any, and it's size? It appeared as though this is more of a gun show that Busse attends? Is this correct? Thanks

Here is my take after 10 years of attending BLADE and 5 years of attending Knob Creek, both Spring and Fall and only missing one in that time.

Knob Creek is more for the looking for those unusual one off type of knives. Kinda of a Here's Busse, come and get us quick fix!!!

BLADE is like no other knife show in the world and is more about a "CELEBRATION of all things BUSSE"!!!

And even if you go away from Blade without one blade (which is almost impossible) it is not a show you want to miss or at least make one time in your life!!! That is what I said 10 years ago, "I'll go one time and see what it is like"!

:D :D :D

The focus of the show isn't knives, and I'm not aware of any other significant knife makers who come to KC. It's not really a "gun show" (except for the literal show on the firing line), but more a military/paramilitary "flea market". As a warning, because I've met some who were offended, there are booths at KC that sell Nazi paraphernalia. There are also booths that sell gun parts, de-milled receivers, ammo, uniforms, cheap knives, novelty t-shirts, old collectables, some bordering on junk to my untrained eye, etc. I'm a bit surprised that Busse Combat comes to town for it; their knives are much higher end than you'd expect from the rest of the booths, but enough of us make the trip that they sell a ton of stuff. Many who don't collect Bussekin are shocked/amazed at their prices -- I've heard a joke about someone asking how much an Argonne Assault was, hearing eleven ninety-seven, and expecting change back from a twenty. Still, if you want to buy Busse Combat/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard knives, it's a prime destination.

I am able to limit myself to only going to the Fall Knob Creek with some buddies. I have never been to a Spring. If my buddies couldn't go, would I drive all by myself? Probably, but I might be able to talk myself out of it if I had a good proxy.

I've said it before, Blade Show is like a family reunion with as much, or as little of a fraternity party thrown in as YOU want. I don't drink and I don't smoke and I have never once felt like I missed out on all the fun, nor would I be ashamed or offended to bring my wife and daughters to everything as long as we left the party by midnight. I only say that because I have never stayed later than that so I don't know what exactly goes on. I am closer to some of the Busse Family and Crew than I am with my own coworkers.

There is something else too. There are a lot of people in the knife industry that were my heroes before I knew who Jerry Busse was (sorry Boss) folks like Chuck Buck, Sal Glesser of Spyderco, Wayne Fowler, AG Russell, etc. You can walk right up to these people and talk to them like a friend would about knives! I have been to the SHOT show and never felt like I could walk right up to someone who wrote for a gun magazine and they would give me the time of day. At Blade, they will thank you for stopping to talk with them. It really is a very friendly and family oriented place, made all the better because Busse and Crew are there.

As to why they go to Knob Creek? I have wondered that myself and have personally concluded that the Busse Crew likes GUNS! and they can sell knives at the same time.

Very interesting thread, it's old but had to bump it.
I have red about Knob Creek on this forum, but I never connected it to the Knob Creek machine gun event. They both look awesome and I hope to attend either this or Blade show next year.

Seriously? You bump a 5 year old thread just to add that you've now made the connection? :D:)

Thread necromancy is discouraged on BladeForums unless bumping the thread is relevent...this one is very outdated.
Next time, please start a new thread, and maybe throw in a link to the thread that got you thinking or curious, to give the option to the reader on whether or not they wish to follow it back to the old thread. Thx! :)
