HOGFSH Sharpness Question

I have a double cut fusion steel heart and boy is this baby thick.

I know that Jerry and company will would touch this up no questions asked....but before I go through the hastle of sending it back, I want to ask an innocent question.

Is the grind on this knife a little less sharp because it is meant to be a heavy chopper? Seems like there is very little angle on the blade edge. Any body else have this knife and experience the same?...or alternatively anyone else know more about the blade grind on this particular knife?

Thanks

I have a couple HOGFSH with very sharp factory edges, and a couple with ax-like convex edges. Both grind types are very sharp in their own rights, only two have shaving sharp edges, being more 'relieved' or 'flat-edge' grind, in appearance.

I'd call and ask - the Busse Team will sort things right out for you. :D

My HOFSH LE was quite sharp with the factory edge, but not sharp enough :D so I gave it a thinner edge and the INFI holds up just fine for heavy chopping.
I was working in the garden the other day and had to cut some branches close to the ground and even when I hit the dirt the edge did not get any deep deformations. After about 5 minutes on the translucent Arkansas it could shave hair again.
I have a normal V edge on the knife now due to the fact that that is the easiest for me to maintain.

PS I was also chopping with my Trail Master and when I several times hit some wire on some fence posts,:o the knife got some semi deep nicks that made it necessary to sharpen about 1 mm of the edge:rolleyes:

I need a BM BAD:D Jerry Get-R-Done:D

Cheers,

André

Hey man! You left a knife in the tree:p Nice pics. Looks like you gave that LE a face lift;)

Nice to see you still using those knives Andre, those are some nice looking stones as well.

I am like you:D I like to abuse knives :D :D
The pink translucent Arkansas stone is KING. Removes lots of steel but leaves a fine edge. Maybe the size of the stone has something to do with it.
It works great on INFI.

No hard black Arkansas:grumpy: I think the translucent is better Ja?
I might get one just to see how it is compared to the translucent:D

Do you have a black?

Cheers,

André

People using their Busses... THE HORROR!!! THE HORROR!!!!!!
:D I like "real life / in the field" examples like these.

Question:
I have an Edgepro, what angle would be a good utlity compromise to reprofile on a Busse? Considering that INFI has a greater resistance to bending and chipping, how low would you dare to go from experience?

Yes, I have a hard black arkansas, it leaves a nice finish but the cutting ability is very slow.

I guess i don't really get the original post. You can make a splitting maul so sharp it will pop hair. Maybe you were asking about cuttting ability? I thought I'd try using my HOG FSH for cutting a (not overly ripe) pear for my lunch today, and it can easily make very thin slices with its factory edge (which came hair-splitting sharp) without wedging in the cut. I am getting some funny looks from some of the lawyers in our office, though... the geometry really isn't that different from a big kitchen knife. I have seen other posts about the obtuse geometry of Busses in general, but really i don't know why you would need any lower a primary grind, unless you are doing surgery....

Could you specify what type/brand of translucent arkansas stone is pictured above? I'm interessed in buying one myself, but I'm having troubles finding an adress in Belgium.
