Those of you that have used a hogfsh how do you rate it???

I have a mint one I can not sell in the for sale section and am tempted to pull it and beat it senseless.

any one have one that they use???

Compared to other Busse's how would you rate it??

I use my .32 ASH all the time (which is basically the same with just a shorter blade) and more blade length would only improve certain things like chopping, imo.

beat that thing...

USE IT DR. BILL, USE IT! You seem like a chopper fanatic, and the HOGFSH would be an excellent blade to test. The extra weight gives it some serious "bite" when chopping, and I would imagine the full flat grind would baton though logs like butter. Do a search; I remember some hogs claiming the HOGFSH as the best Busse to be made for such tasks as chopping and the like. Just my 2 cents!

I owned a standard black canvas jungle green cg version, and it was seriously the one of the best knives I've ever owned.

It ranks right next to the basic 9 as being flawless. by far the most solid feeling knife I've ever held that didn't feel like a piece of plate steel (like the nmfbm). Since I can only own a very few busse's at any time I tend towards the extremes of small and large, so it ended up getting sold. But if I had the ability to own busse's just to own them, that would be one of my first purchases.

Too thick when compared to standard FSH......The FSH slices better the HOGFSH is like an axe!!!!!

I had the chance to handle the two at Knob Creek and went for a standard D/C FSH with standard handles...I got another as a spare which I sold...I put the money to buying a really lovely .270 thick Variant with a serrated clip and a recurve blade. It has the hand shaped Mag handles...these are the best grips...and .270 is about as thick as I would go. Allowing for the clip and recurve it is only slightly heavier than the .25 FSH...but the balance is better.

If I were in your shoes I would consider sending it to Ban who would do a full convex job on the knife and remove the handles so the spine was kept in preportion to the blade on the grip side of things...this would take a little weight off and give you a great mid range chopping machine...that should easily move on the exchange or become your favourite knife.

But at .32 it is a heavy carry option as is....and possibly explains the slow sale side of things...although to collectors...sometimes the thicker the better...but for users it is usually what carries well/works the best.

With the advent of the Bushwacker at 3/16th and the SAR blades at .220 I think there is a bit of a "change" happening at Busse whereby "feedback" from users is saying that "we don't need the knives too thick and heavy"....they are plenty tough and work better on the thinner thicknesses...

It's a great user for chopping the heavier branches (see pix)!! It chops like mad. But must confess I like the HHFSH better (lighter and more versatile because of that).

But I'd say use it!!!

I beat the snot out of my HOGFSH and other than it being a little less agile than the HHFSH it is by far my favorite of the FSH series. I think it mainly has to do with the Mag scales and thick tang but it fits like a glove compared to the .250-.270 versions. Even though the blade is a little chubby at the spine it still does everything the skinny FSHs can do.

HOGFSH - love it:thumbup:

HHFSH - like it

CGFSH - sold 'em all

I traded it off--

-Could not bring myself to use a knife I had so much $ into.

Will look for one-used.

Thanks again everyone for all your advice...

Gotta love Busse owners!!!!--and I do!!!
