OK folks, I hope I don't get flamed for asking here, but. I trust the folks here and have a fair repoire with you, so, where would my fellow Wauseon blade fanatics go to discuss and research handguns (1911s) online.
I used to be a competitive shooter and had a shop down south, but it has been a long, long time (pre-internet) time. I am looking into getting myself and family into a great American freedom, and would appreciate any direction to assist in research. Yes, I have done searches, but it's a good thing to ask people you already communicate with. Thanks, Mike

One of my faves when back home is Packing.org, its a cc site, but lots of good nuggets floating around there... http://www.m1911.org/ is another good 1911 site, if you are in to the collectibles... FWIW, I have heard the springfield GI's are realy good (and economically priced) 1911 clones, but I prefer old GI iron if I can find it (found one right before I deployed for $400, runs like a champ!) I daily carry a Kimber Ultra CDP, a good minigun in its own right... good luck with your search! Jim

+1 on The High Road... good people over there, well moderated to cut the chaff-slinging monkeys.

 On the 1911 :D My personal favorite!

Best regards,

I really like www.ar15.com

They have a forum for every style handgun or rifle.

And I even caught a couple guys talking about Busse and SRKW. :D

Well, you already have the websites I think of for 1911's, but as far as the guns themselves, make sure and check out Wilson Combat (Hmm... Wilson Combat, Busse Combat.....). I did LOTS of homework on this a couple years ago and as far as I could tell, they are the Busse of 1911s. Not cheap obviously, but mine has been a joy- 8 shots through one ragged hole (once) and completely reliable. The CQB model I have is guaranteed to shoot 1" 3-shot groups at 25 YARDS! and go "Bang!" every time you pull the trigger. I'll never shoot that well, but it was well worth the price for the workmanship alone- a worthy companion to a Busse knife.

You'll find, as you research this, that accuracy and dependability in a 1911 are like edgeholding and toughness in a knife- often mutually exclusive and requiring a master to get both. Wilson has done wiith his .45s what Jerry has done with Infi.

I'm a little surprised no one else has mentioned Louder than Words: http://www.louderthanwords.us/

They are more "boutique-y" than some of the other sites, but the people who post there are a fantastic resource.
It is a regular Who's Who list of folks in the gun trade, ranging from Ted Yost (Yost-Bonitz Custom) and Austin Behlert (!) to Lou Alessi and many others.
I love reading the stuff there. It has a very high signal-to-noise ratio.

I'd love a 1911....my father has a WW2-era Ithaca Gunworks 1911 that I'm sure I'll never get my hands on. He guards it like it's his favored son... :(
