Well, I suppose I've been on a Japanese kick lately, I sold a bunch of knives so I could buy a couple of fancy folders I had my eye on, the trouble is, each time I was about to pick a folder, I ended up buying a Japanese type knife instead.
So, in addition to the Slobodian Tanto I picked up last week, I'm looking forward to soon receiving a really neat knife from Anders Hogstrom, which is interesting, to me anyway, because the Slobidoan Tanto I got last week was my first of his, and I didn't even know until after I committed to buy the Hogstrom, that Anders Hogstrom was Scott Slobodian's student. Without realizing it, in the space of a week, I first bought one from the teacher, then the student. Some might argue Anders has surpassed Scott, but they're both excellent IMO and it comes down to personal tastes.
Anyway, I have seen many of Hogstrom's Kwaikens, and I do like them, but often wished Anders would make a more traditional, slender, lengthy Tanto, the Kwiakens have a short, stubby quality to them, I do still like them, but wished for something different, more traditional, a fairly traditional Tanto, so, when I saw this one on KA the other day, I nearly tripped on the way to the phone I was so taken with it, and I was equally hopeful it hadn't already been sold, it hadn't.
8.5" blade of forged 1050, has what promises to be a killer, almost billowing clouds type of Hamon, Anders is one of the masters of the unusual Hamon, up there with Fogg IMO. The handle is premium Olivewood burl, as is the Saya, the ferrule/guard/habaki are antiqued sterling silver, as is the single takedown peg in the handle. Simple, sleek, a somewhat rare, traditional Tanto from one of my favorite artists and bladesmiths.
