Hi guys.
I ordered a deka with magnacut and then immediately ordered micarta scales.
You know because I want a more stable handle.

I'm a bit concerned that the micarta maybe squishy too.
Have anyone tried this combo and feel one way or the other about the micarta scales on this model ?

Thank you

I don’t know about micarta specifically, but the G10’s I got from Blade Scales are significantly stiffer than the polymer ones. I’d think micarta should be pretty similar.

I have seen a beautiful 70s vibe inlay burgundy (looks more like dark purple if you ask me) canvas micarta from RC blade works.

It's expensive and takes forever to ship but still faster than a back ordered magnacut Deka. It looks nice and unique it's still very light weight a big plus with me. Lightweight is what I like although the polymer is lighter I can honestly say it's too close to make any significant difference and as I said I do like lightweight. The micarta is very stiff so if you really hate the polymer flex this should solve that problem.

That being said I do like the polymer. It is light and durable. I think it looks good and it does not feel or look much different than the G10 versions except for flexing if you squeeze it hard in the middle. It is not cheap plastic and I only wish my childhood plastic toys were made of this stuff.

I actually like the older Gen 1 version Dekas with a whole bunch of screws. The G10 scales on them do not have the same plastic look and feel of the G10 used on the second generation models. Maybe it has to do with the texture pattern. The Gen 1s are heavier but still in the very lightweight category overall.

I really love SMKW red, white, and blue Deka generation 1 scales not because I want to carry an American flag in my back pocket where farts and other things occur I like them because the color scheme looks really nice and I am so happy they didn't put tacky stars on it. I think it's one of the best looking scales out there and it comes with the knife at no extra charge.

I also don't give a hoot about deep carry pocket clips but either will do although I don't use pocket clips for concealed carry which is law where I am. If you are going to conceal your knife conceal it and no more needs to be said on that.

The generation 2 was Hogue's response to what the market wanted. They are nice. The partial frames have more than enough stainless liner to do the job just fine in addition to keeping the weight down. That's a big plus in my book.

RC bladeworks prices seem to range from $70 to $150.00 for micarta scales depending on what type of styles you choose. When you get it depends on whether it's in stock or not.

Thank you for your thoughts. That was the answer I was hoping to see.
I ordered the natural micarta scales preemptively thinking I wouldn't like flex in the handle.

I haven't tried deep carry clips and I agree with you on either do it or don't.
Not really a concern of mine.

My red linen micarta scales from RC Bladeworks were pretty much flex-free. Very happy with them!

(I wrote “were” in the past tense because I recently sold this knife. The only reason being that my collection has grown too large and I’m selling off most of my knives that are not out of production and/or not impossible to replace.)

Good to hear that the micarta scales will deliver that look and durable feel, thank you.

I also have a over abundance of knives.
However I lack the courage to sell or give them away.

I own a first gen Deka as well, great knife, but I can't find aftermarket scales for it at all. Wondering if you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

No I don't. I don't remember seeing any scales made for them (Gen 1 Deka.)

Micarta feels solid. Does not squish at all. Better grip than G10 IMOP. You will like them. I have several knives with Micarta scales.

I like micarta, it feels good and it will always in general feel like micarta except for that polished linen stuff it feels harder and closer to G10. I find wet micarta feels like your gripping wet clothing fabric.

G10 can be manufactured with all sorts of textures and the rougher stuff is likely more grippy wet or dry than most micarta. The drawback is rough G10 can also sand down the fabric or your clothing (pockets etc...) It's usually heavier too.

Other than the fact the scales feel like simple plastic, they don't bother me, very minimal flex when you squeeze them.
Realistically will hold for any task I can think of.

I still don't like the feel of the handles so the change in texture will be nice.
But if I only bought and used the knife as is, I would be okay with it.

Thank you guys.
