I was sharpening my Hogue Deka recently and had to remove the Thumbstud.Just wanted to let people know one side is not loctited in but pressed into the blade, you have to be careful in how it's removed as the two halves are held together with a small loctited set screw.

When it came to re-install,I decide to enlarge the hole until it just fit and then fastened back the other half.

So, how exactly did you remove it? I have managed to unscrew one side (the female side), but the other side won't budge, defying my effort to unscrew it (it just spins) or to press it out.

The other side seems to be pressed in at the factory.I drove mine out on a bench block with a steel punch with a hole in the center. It probably done with a 2 x 4 and a nail with a hole drilled in it.Another option is use a wooden dowel.

IMPORTANT.....There a set screw that is loctited to the inside of the thumbsud,so you will need to be careful to no damage it,otherwise the two halve will not go together easily again

If you've managed to get the one side out then you have won about 40% of the battle. If you don't care about the original studs buy a small cobalt drill bit and drill right through the hole right through the stud. A small tweak after that will pop it right out. I've managed to do it a few times so far w/o problem. You can pretty much put any thumb stud on there now.

Yup. Any bugout thumbstud will work! The deka thumbstud is terrible imo.

1) Sir I need help, what tool did you use to get the darn thing out? Im using a pair of pliers as clamps to TRYING to unscrew the thumb studs - I'm destroying them. I did buy some titanium ones from the Bugout, but it seem like they dont fit eh =/ I ordered a few colors so if you come by to put them on Ill give you my extras.

2) On the blade, the side that says Hogue USA, is that the side that require you to pull the thing off with needle nose pliers?

It been a while but you have to remember the two halves are held together by a set screw and loctite. An application of heat is require,I used a butane torch away from the blade.Others have used acetone.
