I picked up the 3.5" drop point in late August. Since then, it has been my predominate heavier-use edc for lab work. It has been used, but not abused. Recently, I noticed I could feel a little bit of side to side blade play. Ive been playing the pivot screw game ever sense.

Anyone else had any minor issues?

Have you considered applying a small line of Loctite down the pivot screw then adjusting? MIne are both G-MAscus if that matters but mine seemed to break in perfectly. They fly open with no side to side play. I have the 3.5 and 4 DP.

I've really been looking at the 4" G-Mascus drop-point. So I'm posting to hear of any other issues before buying. ;)

Dont let my nit-picking keep you from picking one of these up! For the price this thing has been a tank.

I have really put this thing to use, so the fact that it has just the slightest bit of play (im talking close my eyes to really focus on feeling it) says a lot.

Plus it looks awesome with the gmascus handle!

I've got the aluminum handled 4" tanto model, and when I bought it there was the slightest hint of side to side blade play.

One slight adjustment of the pivot and it went away.

So far the pivot tension has remained good - no need to take it apart and add loctite yet.

The knife is a beast - fit and finish is great, and I think it is a really good deal for the price they are charging.

This is probably the best solution. I have the 3.5" DP in Gmascus and am very happy with it. Mine did loosen up a little too and had some blade play side to side. I was able to just tighten the pivot up and it's been okay since. I really love how smooth it was right out of the box. I have my eyes on the 4" DP with black aluminum.

The 4" G-Mascus is one of my favorite folders and the action of both my 4" and 3.5" is truely amazing. And once again, I have no play in any direction.

Also, I think some people may be unfair to the knife with side to side tests. Side to Side play tests on any knife get more difficult for the knife to pass muster if the owner or tester is flexing the blade at the tip. There is a lot of leverage at the tip of a 4" blade and especially versus a 2.5" blade. This is where all folders have the most difficult time IMHO. I try to be reasonable when I test for side to side play. It's easy to cheat against the knife when looking for it.

Is Aluminum or G-Mascus better for a handle? I noticed that the G-10 isn't lined. Also, is this a deliberate deployment kind of knife - like a Sebenza or can you wrist flick it open fast?

The only reason I chose the aluminum was because of looks - I wasn't a big fan of the Gmascus. I think from a strength standpoint they are very close.

My 4" tanto can be wrist flicked very easily.

My G-mascus is very cool; nice design and something different. It's very strong without any liner. I want to try the aluminum because I think it might be a little more comfortable in hand. It flicks open fast, but you need to use the thumb studs. The detent is pretty strong on mine.
