Hogue EX01: aluminium handles or G10?

I read a couple of threads on this blade here at BF and it seems like a great knife. I'm gonna order one, I just doubt between the aluminium scales and the G10.

Generally, I like aluminium better, since it is smoother and some G10 scales are a bit too grippy for me. I won't be using the knife in very cold conditions. How rough/grippy is the G10 on the Hogue? Also, some people remarked that the G10 scales are very light, making the knife a bit unbalanced. I guess the aluminium handles do offset that a bit?

Then again, the G10 (Gmascus) scales look great!

Also, I promised my g/f to buy only one tactical knife. And before I'd seen the Hogue, I was sure it'd be an Emerson CQC-15... Help! ;) (Any good arguments for the Emerson are welcome, though.)

Slightly blade heavy. I have the 4" green Gmascus. I can't imagine the aluminum handle is noticeably heavier.

The Gmascus is very smooth, smoothest G-10 I've ever handled except for my G-10/S30V Leek. There is a textured portion on the front which helps the grip but isn't harsh.

I like Emersons. The Hogue is different, though. They put a lot of good design thinking into it.

i had the 3.5 gmascus and honestly if it had full steel liners i would have kept it - great blade great handle solid lock but
every-time i flicked it open aggressively it felt like it was going to fly out of my hand (but everyone is different)

hope this helps

I have the 3.5" drop point with a black aluminium handle. It is a fantastic knife. If you're a fan of aluminium handles, I don't see any reason not to go with those. The knife is still quite light if that's an issue for you, but it's absolutely rock solid.

i have the 3.5" drop point black aluminum....i have to say the aluminum feels like its higher quality (both great but the aluminum feels like u are holding a machine)

If you get the Hogue, go with 4" :) The balance is best with the longer blade even if not perfect.

IMHO, I think the g-mascus looks terrible. Like muddy water or something. If it was monochromatic I'd be all over it but the black Aluminum or green for that matter has my vote.
