Back again seeking info on a knife I have already purchased, just hasn't arrived yet, but tomorrow should take care of that! Anyway, a quick search turned up a 4page thread about this particular knife but the last post was made in the middle of 2011 and I wanted to see if anyone has sampled this one and what they thought. Of course I purchased the large model and everything I have read about it; thick hardened steel liners, linerlock (i have NO problems with a well built, properly executed linerlock), a thicker blade from one of my favorite steels 154CM, and hefty enough at 7.08 ounces to give it a solid feel in my hand.

Everything I have read concerning the Hogue knives has been really positive and I hope that holds true for the EX02. This will make my 6th flipper since the spinal stroke I had this past July. That stroke left the tips of the fingers on my right hand with neuropathy and me unable to open a knife anyway other than with a flipper. But over the past 10 days I have noticed that the numbness and tingling has lessened and I have found myself able to use thumbstuds with relative ease. Even with that, I discovered that I favor the flipper, but it is nice to find myself able to use thumstuds again.........not to mention the additional hope this gives me for my legs!

So anyone that can shed some light on the EX02 would be much appreciated. Btw, the wharncliffe blade on the EX04, along with the rest of it, has now grabbed my attention and may be my second Hogue once available.

I can now shed my own light!:D Of course everything I have to say is "at first glance", and at first glance, first touch, and first handling, I like it! Just taking this knife from the box and into my hand it has that solid heftiness I look for in all my keepers. Opening and closing has a certain stiffness, yet is buttery smooth throughout the entire arc. Upon the blade coming all the way closed you feel and hear that last tiny bit where the liner snaps over letting you know that the knife is closed and is going to stay that way until you decide to make the effort to open it back up. Blade seating is as perfect as it comes, and the lockup is as solid as that of my ZT0200, the knife I tend to judge all other linerlocks against. The grinds are absolutely spot on with a very sharp, hair popping edge. I like the feel and look of the green G-mascus handle material in and on my hand, and it has enough liner grooves to keep my hand in place on the handle when I grip it. Another thing I really like about the handle is how flat it is, I just like the overall shape........plain and simple!:D

The only real thing I could say I did not like, was the spacer. The shape and design are just fine, but I do not like the material it is made from. I read that it is a polymer (plastic) that Hogue uses for grips, but for the price I would have liked aluminum, and at the very least g-10. But maybe it is a better material for impacts as it is also used for the butt end of the handle. I also do not know the exact thickness of the liners because I do not have my micrometer with me. An eyeball comparsion of the Hogue liners and the ZT0200 liners has them looking very close in thickness @.080".

So overall I think I spent my money wisely and expect for this knife to see some extensive pocket carry time. Btw, I did not mention the pocket clip but I like the design, with the cutout and the hi-rise posts, along with the placement of it so that only a small amount of handle rises above the handle.

Really looking forward to the EX-04 now!!:)

I'd really like to see some pics!

And from a guy who was in a wheelchair for a while and had multiple back surgeries I'm glad to hear that you are keeping positive. Until you've experienced a crippling back issue it's hard to understand how bad it can be. Keep the faith man.

Hi strigamort, and thanks for the kind words. Actually I am still in the wheelchair, and it looks like I might be for a while. Any healing that takes place will be slow in happening, but it WILL happen. Anyway, I have not lost hope in being able to walk and to drive once again, and I am in it for the long haul!

As for the Hogue, I have had an oppurtunity to look it over in gthe daylight now and I found that I like it even more! I have dissasembled it to look it over and to add just a tiny bit more bend to the lockbar, something I do with almost all liner/frame lockers, and it locks up at the same spot on the blade tang as before but now has a bit more stiffness on the lockbar. Don't get me wrong as it was stiff out of the box, but I just like the extra stiffness, and make what you will from that:eek:;)

Haha I'm the opposite. I'll take a bit of pressure off the bar if it's too tight, doesn't loosen up and doesn't negatively impact safety/operation.

Btw, a big part of my "eyes on the prize" in terms of healing was driving, but more so getting and riding a motorcycle. I ride almost daily now. ;)

Update on this knife please? Really interested in taking a plunge here. I want something different that not everyone has, but will last A LONG TIME. :)
