Whats the opinion on Hogue? Are they worth the money? Is the quality there? I like how they look but never handled one

Some of them look pretty good. I don't like safeties on knives and it really puts me off. Blade HQ had a couple good videos on Youtube about them.

I've owned one, an ex04. They are seriously fantastic knives. Excellent quality, hand honed semi polished blade. I have been eyeing the x5. I dont know why they aren't more popular.

Hogues are awesome. I have several of them. The only caveat I have pertains to the X5 line mentioned above. I have 2 of the large ones and I love them, but the smaller one I had was not comfy in my hand at all, due to the size and shape of the handle (too small for me, which put the pointy bits on the finger side of the handle in uncomfortable spots on my fingers). I strongly advise handling them first, if at all possible.

Hogue knives are really nice. I used to have two of the ex01 models, but one has mysteriously disappeared and the other one has a Damascus blade and is too pretty to use. I think they are a lot of knife for the money.

They have exceptionally good build quality and are unique in a world awash with titanium framelock flippers. They also take the time to put a very good factory edge on their knives, and generally have relatively good blade geometry for knives of their intended role.

What stops me from picking one up is that their designs always have some small feature that turns me off of them, like the safety switches or the aggressive handle profiles, or the button lock interface on the blade tang being visible while the knife is open, etc.

I have owned a Beta-1 and it was possibly one of the worst cutting tools I've ever owned, with the bizarre stepped blade bevel, but it was intriguing in that the edge was probably about .010" thick for almost .100" straight up the side of the blade. I couldn't believe how thin they were willing to take it, and that makes me curious to pick a more practical Hogue model up.

The best edges I have seen from the factory came from hogue. They’re the only guys I get a mirror polished factory edge from.

How come I have never heard of the Beta 1 before? Was it a special edition or something?

What Hogue needs is a better designer. Elishwitz’s designs are not for me and apparently don’t draw crazy ammounts of attention.

Yea, I agree. They are functional, but weird. A lot of thought goes into them but they need to stick to what the trends are if they want to be successful

They seem to be priced high for the steel they use, but then again so are Emersons. I think if they want to take the market by storm they should come out with a parallel line of knives, same designs, but better steels(M390, CPM-20CV, M4, CTS XHP, Elmax). They could raise the prices $50 to $75 per knife no problem and people would drool over them.

The knives are spectacularly made and an amazing deal. I just would like to see them work a few more designers into their lineup.

An Emerson designed Hogue button lock would be amazing.

I think it was a special or preproduction version of the X5

I remember seeing preproduction photos of the x5 that looked sort of similar to the Beta 1. It had the same machined carbon fibre body. If Hogue would make a sleek button lock knife in carbon fibre imagine how light and sexy that would be.

Come on Hogue! They’re still stuck on the OVERBUILT thing it seems like.

Very, very nice knives. I carry an EX-01 as much as anything and if you want something that's on the overbuilt side that still offers a lot of practicality I recommend it.

I'd say microtech puts out a comparably sharp edge pretty consistently, but it's not nearly as even as Hogue usually produces.

Exactly what I think. A couple of the designs are cool but most are kinda Fugly (In my opinion)

I don’t know why they are so stuck on Allen Elishewitz.
