Hogue = underrated

I have had my Hogue EX01 3.5 inch OD aluminum for about a month now. Everytime I bring it out I am suprised how smooth the action is. The beautiful, thick, stonewashed blade flies out with minimal pressure from the thumbstuds. Did I mention that the blade is beautiful? The rounded spine/swedge, whatever you want to call it, fantastic.

I love the feel of the aluminum handle in my medium sized hands. I took the clip off mine and it is even better. The button-lock on mine is very easy to engage. Very easy to one-hand open and close. I have not had an issue with the safety lock as I have read about. Maybe it is because I have yet to even engage it, not even once. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself.

The detent is tremendous, almost like the Spyderco Techno.

I wish I could sit down and give a full-fledged review for y'all but I just wanted to say that for $120-$150, this knife is class! I definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of getting one. IMO this knife is amazing and doesn't get the credit it deserves on these forums

I love the Hogue designs. I had an ex02 for quite a while.

A lot of people here like to complain about the price considering it's only 154cm but I think the build quality justifies the prices.

I've had the Hogue EX04 for a couple of months now and it has been in my pocket every day. It is definitely a favorite. Mike

I had an Elishewitz custom Stryker and a Benchmade Elishewitz 910D2 Stryker and appreciate his work. Great knives and he even took the time to reply to my Emails about his custom. Nice guy.
I've got hundreds of knives and the OD aluminum EX-01 finds its way into my pocket very often. Been carrying it all week in fact.
Just a pleasure opening and closing and has a great balance and feel. Comfortable. As for the 154cm, it has an awesome grind right out of the box and I've used and sharpened this one a few times and it's razor sharp. I see no reason to avoid Hogue's 154cm. They seem to do an exceptional job with it.

+1

I edc a black gmascus 4" EX01 just about everyday and I love it! Yeah, 154CM isn't one of the new or exotic steels but it does what I need to do just fine... and it's easy to get sharp when it's time for a touch up. IMHO, all of the Hogue Knives are just about the quality level of a custom made knife but are nowhere near the price of a custom! Anybody looking past Hogue simply because of the steel used in their blades is missing out on a fine piece of cutlery.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have several of their models on my ever increasing "want list"

You can't beat the quality for the price.

Plenty of customs in that steel, in great demand even at multiples of the price point of a Hogue. Nothing to be ashamed of owning. I must look into getting one.

They way they heat-treat their 154CM seems to be better than most I've encountered. I put a 30-degree inclusive edge on my 3.375" tanto EX-02, and it has been my beater for a couple months. After going through hundreds of feet of cardboard, it's still popping hairs. That's pretty damned impressive.

I had an EX-01 for a while, loved it, gave it to a friend who won't shut up about how much he loves it. I currently own three EX-02s (trying to sell a redundant one at the moment, but I won't exactly be upset if it doesn't sell), and the EX-04 3.5" Wharncliffe has been on my list since it was announced. I'm more into flippers / framelocks at the moment, though, so I keep finding other things to haphazardly throw my money at.

Hogue might be overlooked on the forum but certainly not by their peers.

The Hogue Elishewitz EX-04 won American made knife of the year at the 2013 Blade show.

Here's mine.

I've had 2 of the Hogue EX-02's, a thumbstud model and the flipper model. Both were excellent examples of Hogue's workmanship. I'm a fan of well made linerlocks, and both of the '02's fit that bill!

I gave one away on one of the pay it forward threads, and used the other one as partial trade to get my Sig Sauer P232! I really love the look of the EX-04, especially in the blue handles and with the wharncliffe styled blade. I will get another EX-02 this year along with the EX-04.

I would like to own one but I find them to be overly thick and bulky. Unless it's a Crusader Forge or a Raid Ops, I DON'T LIKE BULKY KNIVES!

It's a fun knife on a hike.

Way underrated.

Perhaps the 154CM has something to do with it although they do it right.

My EX-02 G-Mascus Spear Point flipper is a stout flipper and my three EX-04 of various size, color and blade shapes are great. They need some stonewashed uncoated blades for the EX-02 and EX-04 lineup.

Wilson Combat thinks so highly of the Hogue Knives that they carry several with their own StarBurst grip pattern.

Very underrated , excellent quality . I never seen defective one (yet) .
have few in my collection and love them.

as for 154 steel ,nobody complains about Emerson .

I don't see why anyone would complain about 154cm. 154cm steel kicks ass! It's by far one of my favorite steels out there.
