Please advise your experiences if you’ve owned and used each brand.

I’m particularly interested in the long term use and how they hold up over time

IE any lock failures and how you feel the edge holds up with N690 vs 154CM in real world EDC.

Thanks!

I have an ER Nemesis. Thinned the edge so I could actually cut stuff with it, but that is required on most knives sold as “hard use”, IME. The N690 seems to hold up fine, but I would give a slight edge to well treated 154CM. I thought the double lock was a gimmicky, but it does work. I will say it has held up fine, but I don’t really beat on it. Not impressed with the finish, but that is also really not a concern for me. It does have a small amount of lock play, but doesn’t affect function. The glass breaker works great, don’t ask. 😅 Overall, I don’t think it’s worth the price of admission, and it appears they are about $200 more than when I bought mine. Don’t own any ER. But do own 4 magnacut Hogue Deka knives. One regular one that came with cheap and flexy plastic scales. Great knife, but hated the scales. Replaced them with RCBladeworks micarta scales. So much better and is now my primary EDC. Also have exclusive Deka models — the Sub Zero edition with blue and black carbon fiber scales with magnacut clip point blade and a clip point and a wharncliffe version of the Scorpion edition with black and gold carbon finer scales. The grip, feel, quality and action of all the Dekas are fantastic. Highly recommended.

Comparing dollars to dollars, Hogue comes out a better value 10/10 times. ER makes quality stuff but Hogue is right there with it with, what I would consider, better materials. Some of ERs offerings command HIGH dollar cost for what exactly? N690 steel? Not exactly the cream of the crop. Not terrible by any stretch, but Magnacut is going to edge it out (pun intended) in the Hogue offerings. As always, just my opinion on the subject. Take it with a grain of salt.

I've owned/still own an example of each. Apples & oranges to me.

Pick the one you like for the reasons that matter to you most and you really can't go wrong.

Within your requisites:

N690 is less prone to rust than 154CM.

154CM will probably keep a better edge over N690 (heat treat dependant)

Can't speak to the locking mechanisms as I'm partial to fixed blades.
