"Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats."

H. L. Mencken

( Then again, other than Jim, no-one with HIKV has ever claimed to be normal. )

Art Bell flashbacks, Rus?

... normal man ...
Who? A man is called as a normal man because most of the times he behaves as a normal man under normal condition --- am I correct? ... Under certain circumstances or at certain times or at certain places this what we called as a normal man can behave differently --- is he still valid to be called as a normal man?
... and begin slitting throats ...
What? Slitting throats? It is an old practices done to terminate lives! Somewhere in this world slitting throats is performed for the sake of survival! ... at other situation slitting throats is done out of madness! ... sometime slitting throats is enjoyed out of greediness! Is slitting throats a big sin?

Is this over some new gun/knife control laws? Perhaps its over recent Maoist activities in Nepal? Am I getting close?

You might want to give your reason fairly soon, if only to calm down Mohd. I think you're scaring him!

Rusty, we're here to share your burden, to lend a compassionate ear, to extend a helping hand -- got the picture? Now, what in blue blazes is going on? We want to share your pain, lad! So vent!!

A guess: Rusty is describing the feelings of the federal judge in the Los Alamos spy case now that he realizes the government lied in order to trick him into putting that scientist into solitary confinement for the last 9 months. Am I right?

I think he just found a quote that would get a lot of attention. Now he's just watching the forum laughing as us poor shmucks get all worked up about it.

Does anyone know who HL Mencken is?

Who's H.L. Mencken? He's the American journalist and social critic who was perhaps reincarnated as Rusty!

H. L. Mencken was an American journalist, literary critic, publisher, and author. Two of the many things he wrote were "Notes on Democracy" and "Heathen Days."

What's kinda scary about Rusty is that his condition may have been triggered by nothing more than his forgetting to take his medication.

OK, someone on the firing line uses that quote as his signature. It rings true to me every now in then when made to suffer the indignities of life.

Then I began to wonder what response it would get over here? Kind of an inkblot (Rorschach) for people to read things into, you know?

Twas the child's explanation "the devil made me do it", fellow forumites. Nothing to do with my medication ( I think? ). Just teasin' y'all. ROTFLMAO.

And Steven F, more gets blamed on my medication than is it's due.

Just like elders often use their age and apparent senility ( and a very selective senility it is too! ) to blame simply "doing what they durn well want to do" on.

Josh: Not bad, but remember not to take me seriously unless I'm joking.

Harry, didn't Bill Cosby use something similar in his routines too?

You're right about the selectivity of senility, Rusty. I've got an old aunt who can't hear a thing when the family's gathered around in the living room, yet, you can go two blocks down the street and whisper some tidbit of gossip and the ol' biddy hears every word!
