Hold Out Series

I have been a fan of the Hold Out series for years. The design is so good that I've been using the same 3" Hold Out III since they came out, even with the outdated steel. It is so light and flat I hardly notice it's there, and it is a very capable knife. I especially appreciate the neutral handle that works in any grip.

Recently I picked up a new example in S35VN. The fit and finish are as good as my 10 year old Hold Out, the smoother G10 pattern isn't as destructive to pockets (the older ones had to be lightly sanded down under the pocket clip or they were almost un-useable), and the S35VN is perfectly heat treated and holds an edge very well. The cutting edge is ground perfectly.

I really hope they release the 4" version of these, with S35VN it would be a serious contender to replace my Spyderco Military model as my go-to 4" folder.

I was surprised that the 4 inch Hold Out was discontinued. Very useful edc.

I now carry the 3 inch HO every day and rotate my larger edc. I used to think 3 inches was too small for a work knife. That little Hold Out has changed my mind.

Lynn apparently likes the XL Hold Out a lot, listing it among his Top 3 folders.

P.S. - Really, Mr. Beam? Hoping to sell a lot of t-shirts to immature teenage boys?

4" holdout is a personal favorite. only thing I dont like is the rough texture and pocket shredding. smoother scales would be a huge improvement. I have a handful of them in different colors and steels. I wouldn't mind a 4.5" version in this knife.

and of course with tri-ad lock.

none of that new gsm lock stuff.....😁

Unfortunately my hold out was sacrificed. I had a flat tire on the highway. I had no tool to get the center cap off the rim. I had to pry it off with my knife. Bent the hell out of it. That one still hurts. But I really had no choice. It was one of my favorite knives. But I was stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Although I'm sorry to hear about your loss, I can't help but think that the knife did exactly what it was intended for- solving a problem that needed to be solved. That's why I carry "tools" anyway, and if one needs to be sacrificed for the greater good, then I will celebrate it, and the luck and foresight that I chose to carry it with me.

On a related note- make sure to keep the rest of it. If GSM isn't going to provide people with replacement parts the rest of your knife could prove to be of some value.

I know how you feel about he rough CS scales. On many of my CS edc s, I just pass a piece of sand paper under the clip to smooth the scales in that one spot . Works great.

That knife would hold a place of honor in my collection. If a knife has a soul, and I think they do, then this knife is resting in Valhalla.
