Holding a Native

I have a Native III (or whatever native has S30V) that I got in the mail from a trade here on BF. I love the knife, it is solid, sharp, great blade design, and great steel. The only thing I can't figure out is how to hold it. I have medium hands, and can't seem to make this knife comfortable. The finger choil is to small for my pointer, and when I hold on just the handle, my middle finger rest on the point. How do you hold your Native, or do you just get used to it? Has anyone ground the point off the FRN scales to make them more comfy?

Like so many other knives, how comfortable the Native is, is a matter of your own hand. I found it to be about the most comfortable and secure handle shape I'd ever held, right up there with the Emerson Commander. Fit my hand perfectly. If it doesn't drop into place in your hand, it's probably just one of those knives you aren't going to get comfortable with, no matter what.

You have a Native. The Native III has a VG10 blade. The handles are different. The Native III has a more hand-filling handle. The Native handle is a bit flatter. They each have their proponents as to which is more comfortable in the hand. Upon thinking about various threads I have read, I think the Native III may have more proponents, but I could be wrong.

Like Esav said, it's an individual thing.

I have a Native III and find it to be the most comfortable knife I have ever held. But, YMMV.

I ground the point with some sandpaper and it's a lot more comfortable. I might even take it down further and make the entire area behind the first choil one smooth line.

I like that vivi. I think mine may be getting the same treatment soon. Did you have the feeling of the first choil only fitting 1.5 fingers?
