Hole in Busse?

What is the hole in the Busse knives used for if anything at all? Is it just for decoration? I've never handled one but thought about buying one. Why did they change the handles? Thanks

The balance of the blades would be thrown WAY off it weren't for the holes.

On the "extreme combat" series, I believe the original idea was that you could use the holes to wrap the blade in paracord or something similar, in case the handle slabs came off by some odd chance. It sounds like a most remote possibility, at best. Today, it does seem like a "signature" part of the Busse design which doesn't do much more than indicate, "this is a Busse."

But maybe others use it in some innovative ways?

RE reasons for handle change, you may want to do a search in the Busse forum -- there have been at least two recent threads on the topic.

Cheers,
Glen

The hole was originally a talon lock, a pin was but through the sheath and the knife securing the knife in the sheath. The TOPS Storm Rider has the same thing except it's on the butt of the handle. The hole has now just become part of Jerry's trademark. Hope this helps.

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

There seems to be some debate as to the origin of the hole but there's no doubt that it can be useful.

If you want to make a spear, two holes are better than one for lashing.

You can also make a nice handle for dragging (such as a deer carcass) by putting some rope through both holes creating a Y that attaches to the main rope. Much better to drag with a handle than just a plain circle of rope. Of course you can do the same thing with a wooded stick.

You can make a handle sling from both holes or a handle thong using just the real hole.

I guess it's one of those things you have to use you imagination on.

My understanding from a previous thread is that the holes were originally designed as attachment points for an optional D-Guard that Busse was going to make. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the thread it was in.
